Notwithstanding, one party to the whole obtuse affair is of course unavailable, and I'm not entirely sure that the reason behind Dux' demotions, the first one or the second one, or indeed both, may not have been brought about by the same, very influential Field Marshal (yes lads, we're talking the army now) Viscount Lord Lord Roylance "Roy to the Boys" Fotheringay-Bottomhammeringintholomew, who reportedly fell ghastly afoul of the french crumpet that Dux had so gallantly entertained in the best HWH Squadron tradition; "Up, Up and Away!"
A tete-a-tete was allegedly set up between the Field Marshal who was later lost in the Suez affair and the Corporal, and all we know is the complexion of the Field Marshal's teint when upset, but this time for some reason he was in a towering rage. Apparently the rendezvous had not gone well at all.
Incomprehensibly the Field Marshal Viscount had not learned his lesson the first time, or perhaps he had simply forgotten his earlier disappointment, and here the facts are unclear, was it perhaps the same corporal, and who was paying lip service to whom?
According to some information - should we term them rumours? - the Field Marshal didn't quite catch a slip of his tongue in time when he blurted out something about not condoning fraternizing with the opposite sex.
