After a hair-raising 142 mile drive to the Norfolk area near Titchwell, we secured our desired 'tick'; the first British record for the Northern Harrier, also known as the Marsh Hawk. A great bird to end the year on. I say that because the expected snows which are due to arrive tomorrow will put paid to further trips before the New Year.
C51 will be familiar with the bird and just as surprised as we were to learn that it has appeared over here.
It seems quite happy quartering the coastal marsh and will probably stay there for some time. At one point we saw it carrying prey - some unfortunate bird perhaps.
