We collected all sorts from all parts of the world, mostly by sending off for approvals, a service which is still available today. The prettier the better. I was surprised to learn a few weeks ago that the average price for a schoolboy's collection was only �10, about $15!
We got to learn alternative names for different countries like Helvetia, Deutsches Reich, Suomi, Polska etc., so there was educational value there too.
