Let me see now, where have I heard that name Lotte Lenya before? Hmmmm. Oh yes, Lotte Lenya and old Lucy Brown were both mentioned in Bobby Darrin's massive hit "Mack the Knife". Who knew she was also a celebrated actress?
Also a singer, Lotte Lenya was the wife of the composer of the music for Mack t K, Kurt Weill. I've heard the story that Bertolt Brecht inserted her name into the original german lyric, but according to Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mack_the_Knife her appearance was due to an improvisation by Louis Armstrong during his recording of the song. At any rate, it persisted in the english lyrics thereafter, including Bobby Darin's version.
