I think someone said that the Battle of Britain would have been lost without the Hurricane but without the Spitfire it couldn't have been won. Or words to that effect. Still, The Hurricane accounted for far mor kills than the Spitfire and the evocative distinct lines of R.J. Mitchell's design are quite unforgettable.
Both machines of course served in other theaters of war, i.e. Africa, Malta, and while Spitfires were very hard to build on an assembly line and were complicated to repair, the Hurricane proved friendly to mass-production and easy to repair and to get up flying again.
