This indicates, it is said, to herald the possibility for a new treatment for depression..... Those of us with skeptical minds might wonder if there might also be other, far less acceptable and sinister possibilities for this technique?

Relatively easy manipulation of emotional memory smacks of the movie "Eternal Sunshine" in which the Jim Carey character has all his painful recollections of a failed relationship purged from his memory using fictional mind reading technology.

Do you fellows know what this means for me? In no time at all, the terrible and debilitating anguish of wetting my pants in kindergarten class could be no more, entirely replaced by the manufactured but infinitely more pleasant memory of kissing Emma Lou Cowcudd, aged 5, in the darkened cloakroom.
