Unless there a lot of humidity in your home, I would suggest you do not cover or tightly seal the Tupperware container in which you're keeping the dunked item. It does seem to take a couple of weeks, or it did for me. I occasionally just stirred up the rice, but did not take the cam apart. Less chance for rice than salt to get into the works or scratch anything.
