I'm re-watching "The Death of Stalin" on Netflix, its simultaneously amazingly funny and horrifying all at the same time.
Needless to say, it should have won every oscar and is one of my favorite movies.
Just saw it for the first time the other day and I completely agree.
My first time watching about year ago, thought it was different to add comedy to it. But I liked it.
The crazy thing is that it totally captures the banality of communism. The humor is all because the situation is so freaking funny. For example, Molotov being unsure whether he should still believe his wife was a traitor after she's released or not. Or the fact they can't find a doctor because Stalin purged them all.
As I watched the movie the first time I kept saying "oh, that didn't happen", then I'd look it up and I'd be like. Oh... that actually happened. It really makes the movie. Also, Jason Isaacs as Marshal Zhukov is a completely inspired choice (despite the weird yorkshire accent) as he completely captures the absolute brashness of the great war hero (and later butcher of Hungary). Simon Beale is also amazingly spooky as the terrifying Beria.
The word "Martyr" is just a fancy name for "crappy fighter".
