4 miles and 2000' to the FAF - would he have gigged you if you refused the approach and asked for either another vector or another turn in the hold to drop the altitude and get configured (stabilized) for the approach?
I know I'd never bust the chops of a student that made a smart decision not to continue an unstabilized approach..
You'll do fine..sounds like things just got to happening a bit fast.
