And have the dev go belly up like Maddox did? We don't need that debacle repeated. The world waited 8 years to see a sim like this sucessfully created. That's long enough.
The world waited?.
Was there another WWII flight sim launched sucessfully between 2006 and 2014 that I'm not aware of?
I don't think BoS was launched successfully. The game that folk played during EA was not the game that was launched. Everybody, including you sharp, think that the game, and it is a game, needs improving. Are you basing success on sales? I wonder how many sales of BoM there have been. I wonder what percentage of BoS EA players have bought into the BoM EA. You say war thunder isn't a sim because it uses mouse aim. Some folk fly BoS with twist sticks for rudder, is that simulating a real ww2 aircraft? Folk will use what they want, what they have. Not everybody has built a "sim pit" in their spare room. Unlocks are a game feature, it's as simple as that. That's where your sim argument falls flat on its face. Folk who play WT are enjoying themselves and there are a lot more folk enjoying themselves with WT than there are folk enjoying themselves with BoS. WT is more successful than BoS because the players know what they're playing. If BoS wants to be a success the devs need to listen to the unhappy customers because they are NOT going to attract new players. Not in the numbers that will make further development financially viable.
DCS Kickstarter Wags July 2014 "In this July 2014 update, the primary news is in regards to the restructured backer rewards. After a careful review of the older system under RRG, we found it financially unattainable." Wags October 2017 "the investment vs. generated revenue has been excellent for the World War II aircraft. In fact, the P-51D Mustang has twice the cost effectiveness of the A-10C Warthog."
