Well, the bombs are more aerodynamic, but the Camel has a propeller that actively drives it forward... My thinking is that the weight of those bombs would be a good percentage of the overall aircraft weight, so the plane should be lightened and lift at the moment of release, even in a dive. Furthermore the pilot would want to pull up after release, I guess. The fact that the design was used speaks for it, I'd say, but sure, we don't know if Camel pilots actually used some form of dive-bombing...
