Got out and about and spent some time clearing gatekeep ruins a couple times to try to get accustomed to the combat and that helped a lot. Still using keyboard and mouse but I have a controller handy. I did it mostly by stealth and partly by bow, neither of which is going to get me past a boss. I reckon the idea is to faff about, leveling up and finding or upgrading gear for a while so that's what I'll do. I like it fine at this stage, there are a lot of good RPG hooks in it.
