Yeah PM, a Hits compilation can be a disappointment. Sometimes a song title might be included but it's a completely different sounding newer version...

Motley Crue - Greatest Hits (version of "Shout At The Devil").
The Police - Every Breath You Take: The Singles (version of "Don't Stand So Close To Me").

...or an unacceptable shortened version of a favorite song...

Rolling Stones - Forty Licks (shortened version of "Beast of Burden"...missing too much guitar).
The Steve Miller Band - Greatest Hits 1974-78 (shortened version of "Fly Like an Eagle").
Aerosmith - Greatest Hits (missing bass intro to "Sweet Emotion").

Called the "single" versions. I usually have the full album as well so no big deal, and fortunately going digital (lossless [full album] or MP3 [single song purchase]) lets you easily remedy this in a playlist.

EDIT: You also have to add "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" to "Gord's Gold" which came out a year later than his Hits album, I think. Also (not Hits but missing song related) "When the Tigers Broke Free" is missing on the original "The Final Cut" album (1982), not added until 2004.

The rusty wire that holds the cork that keeps the anger in
Gives way and suddenly it’s day again
The sun is in the east
Even though the day is done
Two suns in the sunset, hmph
Could be the human race is run
