I read that about M�lders, the first pilot to 40 kills since WWI, and publicity back home. His award was unusual in the it was received immediately after the action for which it was awarded. His was the 2nd Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves awarded. Galland also received his in Sept. 1940, as he was one of the pilots in the race for top fighter pilot. Still, these are exceptions to the rule, not the norm. Galland's receipt was for continued actions, as well as kills numbers, so again, date was a few days from his kills (this part I'd have to look up, can't remember date he got his 40th).
