35km is one method to overcome strong passive clutter beyond 75km. The same amount of clutter is visible in both cases (150 km and 75 km modes).
The difference is that in 75km mode, a clutter at 100km is overlay a clutter at 25km, also the SDC cannot filter it over 75km.
While guiding a missile, it is not recommended to switch the range mode from 75km to 150km.
(switching from 150km to 75km is ok).
In case, when we are guiding a missile, and we are in 75km range mode, and would like to go to 35km mode, we do the following...
1, switch fo/2, leaving the range mode selector in 75km mode.
2, switch 35km at the I32V panel.
35km can only be switched from the 150km mode (or from 75km with fo/2).
If you are in 75km, and you select 35km, than nothing should happen.
