Certainly a different comedy culture from those in the US, and a different sense of humor too. British evidently like to wear dresses is something I noticed in their comedy among other things. I like Benny Hill and Monte Python ( Holy Grail ) though.

Men wearing dresses, acting like 'women' in plays, musicals, vaudeville etc has been around ever since women weren't allowed on stage, or as actors for that matter. It was a Western culture thing (maybe an Eastern thing as well?) so men filled female characters roles until possibly the early 1900's. As far as I can tell, these touring companies were mainly comedy troupes and became particularly important during WWI, used to entertain troops to maintain morale. American entertainment troupes were similar, and the origins can be traced back to the Civil War. The USO was founded in 1941, but by that time, women entertainers and actors filled their own roles smile

Classic British humour. Dry, tongue in cheek and with a cringe factor. Whats not to get? Mr. Bean is a good example.

If you can't get the above, you'll struggle with comedies like Fawlty Towers or Yes Minister. smile2

Good summary Boom. Didn’t realize that Culcairn is a historic rural town in the Riverina and Murray region of New South Wales, Australia, located on the Olympic Highway between Albury and Wagga Wagga. sounds beautiful.

I don't know what there is to not understand in those videos, but if you struggle there then you should steer well wide of the likes of The League Of Gentlemen smile

Just like art, humor is in the eyes of the beholder, take it for what it is.

On a related note, The HBO series "ROME" which predominantly had actors from the UK, had an incredible amount of great humor in it irrespective of the violent and serious premise.

Thanks PM, that looks like something I would be interested in but unfortunately I don’t have HBO. I don’t watch much TV.

It was on HBO back in 2005-2007. You can get it on bluray though.

On a related note, George Harrison was a big fan of Monty Python's Flying Circus.

George Harrison stepped in to fund Life Of Brian when that was a problem.

Hot Fuzz is perhaps the greatest modern example of British humour in a movie. It is perhaps one of the most quotable movies of all time. If you "get" that sort of humour, Hot Fuzz is one of the greatest comedies of all time. If you don't, you won't understand a thing.

The greater good!

I did not know Brits eat quiche. Thought that would be a French custom.
