No SC unfortunately, but this is a great bit of nostalgia.

The EAW Code Group has had the EAW source code for some years now. This enabled development of 1.28 through the current 1.6.

Sorry guys but here was literally NO POINT to the thread other than to declare the death of the sim and you mods approved it.

The O.P.:

I still play UAW/EAW for fun, on occasion. It's necessary to play UAW/EAW on older, less capable computers nowadays; more modern computers have some problems, maybe not. I understand the effort of folks to make UAW/EAW viable with Win 10. I hope equally successful efforts concerning Win 11.

I play more advanced games, on a more modern platform, on a more regular basis. UAW/EAW/ is seldom selected by me. A fun, legacy game, with historical value, but not in the same class, either visually, or graphically, as with more modern games.

My sincere thanks to folks keeping EAW/UAW alive and "viable" even now. It's fun to look into the past, although the future is what we all will encounter, like it or not.

Reading comprehension is important.

RIBob states his appreciation of the efforts put into keeping EAW/UAW alive ( as in NOT DEAD ).
He opines it is nicely done and is under-appreciated, apparently by some others.
He states that he, himself, has moved on to what he believes are better games for the newer crop of computers & graphics cards.
He elaborates on his view, while indicating that he still plays UAW/EAW a small percentage of the time.
He expresses his thanks to "folks keeping EAW/UAW alive and "viable" even now".

That looks like a number of points to me, including that the sim is being kept alive ( as in NOT DEAD ).

There is nothing there for a moderator to object to.

Moderators are not here to be fact checkers. We are here to uphold SimHQ rules, and in the case of this sub-forum... attempt to keep a lid on the childish quarrels.

Then your post comes along:

Which was clearly a shot, and likely to stir up a quarrel.

RIBob's post wasn't the problem here. Yours, on the other hand, was.

The thread was absolutely fine until yourself and VB had to have little under the cover shots at each Rotton. My only quote regards that is ..let sleeping dogs lie.

Regards the death of EAW...the sim has been declared for so long now..yet it still continues, she's quiet, but the old lady keeps kicking and has many fond memories for nearly everyone that is still here at Simhq that has spent time in and for most that still do. There was absolutely nothing wrong with RIBobs post, and it encouraged mostly good discusssion.

Great read. I noticed Mias skies in one of the screenshots, that was uncredited in the article. That was my favourite sky background mod from back in the day, very pretty work it was.

20 plus years was a long time ago. That was probably my last mission in EAW. Since then it has become a boutique playground. Though I do recall some amusing community anecdotes circa 2006.. winkngrin

Not terribly important now, I just wanted several geezers here to know that I do pop in from time to say "Hi" and see what's up. wink

Hello BP, good to see you're still around. cheers Yeah I remember that time very vividly, must have been around the time the Code group went underground to work individually on their own theaters of choice, like project Rodnoc, SPAW and Spanish Air Wars and WWI. A pretty productive moment with lots of promise, but most fun for me personally was when all remaining squads were having fun in the EAW Launchpad between 2000 and 2005, after MSN groups closed down the gaming zone and pilots had to be rescued. My personal revival happened between 2010 and 2015 when I created my own squadron who re-energized my efforts to start working on the FXEXE again. I think I've been very lucky to have had another chance to meet new friends to fly and have fun with, after all the old ones disappeared. A few revisited a few times to say hello or wrote me an e-mail or P.M. and sometimes I wrote them to see how they were doing. I do miss some of them and hope they're still alright and kicking.

Yes, some 18 years from that article's date.
The thing is that I'm not sure what I'd actually do with it, as the IP rights always belong to someone else. So, it would be added to my backlog of sim source code, like Mig Alley, EECH etc that I'll get around to one day.
I'd also have to pass the EAW Code Group's initiation ceremony...

My regrets if my previous post caused angst amongst some users. Not my intent whatsoever. I appreciate all the work done in updating the game and keeping it alive.
