To all you fighter jocks: would you hesitate sending a sidewinder up the pipe of a Mig-15 flown by a woman? Not at all. Why should gender make a difference? It shouldn't, but reality has a way of intruding in our 'egalitarian ideals' and messing us up in the head when the stakes are high. I was just wondering if knowing that a female (possibly someone's mother) was piloting a Mig-15 would give you pause, if only for a split second. I don't know if it would affect me negatively or not. I would do everything in my power to make sure it didn't, because I don't want to die, but...
War is the continuation of natural selection by other means.

Ha! If I were a fighter pilot I'd only hesitate because I'd realize that "so I shot down the MiG-15 with an AIM-9X/AIM-120C at max range" doesn't make for an impressive story at the bar afterwards.
Besides, just how would you know the gender of the pilot?

The Duke was gay anyway wasn't he?
"You'll never take me alive" said he, And his ghost may be heard if you pass by that billabong "Who'll come a Waltzing Matilda with me?"

The Duke was gay anyway wasn't he? I think you are thinking of Rock Hudson.

North Korea is currently, according to several reports (which seem to be consistently ignored in the mainstream media, judging by the persistence of the standard journalistic shorthand used to represent it, and the prevailing public perception), undergoing a substantial change in its culture; something like the beginnings of the disassembly of strict Maoism in China a few decades ago. Consumer electronics are beginning to appear, various signs of the penetration of 21st century household and personal knickknackery encroaching on the spartan stalinist archetype. Here's a representative article: http://fpif.org/tao-north-korea/

I'm not so sure it's that easy, maybe it's easier today to learn to fly in a F-22 than in a Mig-15..

Here's a representative article: http://fpif.org/tao-north-korea/ That is a very "the glass is one sixteenth full" kind of article. It also implies that North Korea would suddenly drop its entire socio-political culture if only the USA would stop bullying it with sanctions. One might recall that the current leader of North Korea was educated in Switzerland and the only "cultural values" he adopted was a fondness for the NBA, whiskey, and caviar. Students in North Korean universities are deeply vetted for political reliability and will be closely scrutinized for any deviation from the path of Juche in favor of international trade or capitalism and will be swiftly dealt with. Along with their families, because a member of the intelligencia that has fallen for traitorous thoughts and words must be the product of secret trainining by his parents and at any rate family is almost always part of criminal enterprises.

You might find it funny, but I agree with PV1. It won't be an over night thing, but they are breaking up slowly but surely. http://www.lewrockwell.com/2013/07/gary-north/no-more-communism%E2%80%A8/ Too many of them are seeing the photos and electronic things that the South Koreans are sending over on balloons. It isn't just the government doing it, it is the Christians using papers and electronic gizmos to share the gospel. They are staring to realize that South Korea is doing better. The blinders will slowly slide from the eyes, either North Korea is going to need to clamp down on the reforms or they are going the way of the Great Leap Forward and regress even more. http://marginalrevolution.com/marginalre...ized-china.htmlI don't think that North Korea will in the long run be able to stop market reforms. In some ways I have mixed feelings, if they truly collapse and have the world refuse to help, they may over throw the power brokers and have real freedom. Otherwise, they may get reforms, but live under a semi-totalitarian state like China has now. People get rich, but they don't get freedom. Humanity tends to want wealth and security more than risk and liberty.
