As a huge fan of Red Baron 3D`s campaign i was excited to hear Rise of Flight would get a career mode, but after playing it since its came out i find it to shallow, and want something with more dept.

After years of doubt (mostly due to CS3), I purchased OFF, and a new copy of Combat Sim, and today MSCS3 arrived in the mail and i`m very excited biggrin

Now its just a wait till OFF arrives

Just wanted to share my excitement with yall.

Kr.

Welcome aboard, sir! I think once you get everything installed, you may want to check out Lothar_of_the_Hill_People's OFFBase add on package, which is actually a bunch of contributions by a bunch of people. I'm considering it, as it's the closes thing to the WOFF update that the developers have been sweating over all these many months. I'm not sure if it's posted here yet, but it definitely is over at Combat Ace. (yep, with linky goodness!).

I simply love flying in OFF, even though I don't get to it very often. Hope you enjoy it as well! Plus, this is a great bunch of virtual aviators to hang out with.

Happy New Year,

Tom

sp00k, welcome over Flanders fields!
The single player campaign is the definite strength of OFF, you will see.
If you add the "Hat in the Ring!" add-on, you will have a wide scale available.

Since we have no release date for WOFF yet, which promises to become even much greater,
you will have enough time to enjoy OFF, and to familiarise yourself with it.

The power of the REBOL programming language, and some really good compression. Links to other mods supported by the included OFFramp mod manager are on the OFFbase page at CA if you want to use more of your download quota and expand the game even more.

I gave OFF a shot for the same reasons. You get used to the CS3 quirks after a while, and they are very helpful here with any technical issues. If you were into RB3D single player campaign, OFF is where you should be now.

BTW, love the Strutter 2 seater. New favorite plane.

HPW's DM is up to version 1.25, and you might try Andy73's Sound Tweak III.1. A full list of supported and recommended downloads is right in the middle of the OFFbase download page.

I queried a few skin makers about putting together an easy-to-install bundle, but no one seemed interested.

sook..skin packs?...the game has hundreds if not a thousand skins..seriously one thing I never bothered with with this game is skins as there is no real need, unless you want a custom one.

The problem of the "hundreds if not a thousand skins" out there is it's difficult for people to find good ones, and most don't come with any instructions so can be difficult to install and use for those without the technical skills to make their own custom skins in the first place.

If anyone wants they can try the skin pack I quickly slapped together a while back. The idea was to include high-quality historically appropriate skins in a single installer that 'just works'--run it and the skins show up in the game.

So far it includes:

Bullethead:
DFW C.V Realistic(?) Naval Hex
- After a lot more research, I totally re-did the paintjob of my naval DFW skin. Now it looks (I THINK) about as realistic as possible, per Dan-San Abbott's information. Hand-painted, symmetrical hexes in hopefully the right colors, and the correct colors on the fuselage and rudder.

nbryant:
SPAD VII - Spa.26 1917
- No. S 1042 (14) of Spa.26 crashed on nose at St. Pol. This plane was wrecked on 14 September 1917 by M.d.L. Quellec. The serial number indicates that the plane was constructed by Blriot but it appears that the upper wing had been previously replaced with one constructed by S.P.A.D. or Kellner as the cocardes are of a larger diameter than found on Blriot-built planes. Also note that the nose appears to be painted in a dark color. A darkish color extends over the fabric surfaces back to the fuselage band.

Olham:
Albatros DIII early Burgundy - Jasta 24 1917
Albatros DIII Red Yellow - Jasta 28w 1917
Albatros D.V "Windrose" - Jasta 17 1917
- Inspired by the 3. Albatros D.Va built by THE VINTAGE AVIATOR, I made this skin. The plywood of the TVA craft was varnished with a clear laquer with a warm redbrownish tone added. It looks like a darker honey, or amber. Together with the mauve and green upper wing camo, it goes very nicely.
Albatros D.V Haifisch - Seefrosta 1 1917
Sopwith Triplane Blue & Silver - RNAS-8
Sopwith Triplane "Silver Bird" - RNAS-8

RAF_Louvert:
Bristol F2b - RAF 139
- #D8084 flown by Capt Sydney Dalrymple of 139 Squadron RAF, based at Villavera aerodrome.

UK_Widowmaker:
Sopwith Pup - 66 sqd 1917
- Flown by s/Lt W.C. Heathcote

Could use someone to take over the effort of finding good historically-appropriate skins and adding them to the pack along with documentation of when and what squadrons they fit. Any volunteers?

I half expect WOFF to ship in a canvas dvd jacket cut from the fuselage of an actual WWI plane. Maybe that will be the deluxe edition.

At any rate, they sure have done an amazing job of painstakingly researching and recreating all of that incredible artwork. Since OFF shipped with 8GB worth of skins and WOFF promises even more skins at a higher resolution, I can only imagine how much space the new skins will take up.

Wodin, you are right - there are more than 3.400 skins with OFF.
That doesn't leave any wishes open surely.
The skins I made are just my own, more or less believable personal skins.
I uploaded some of them for all to use.

Hellshade, I don't think they would never commit such a sacrilege.
(And then it would also be a bit expensive).
biggrin
