I live on a little 28 acre farm here in east Texas and we have some chickens, ducks and some guineafowl. Also three longhorns. We get about nine eggs a day from all the fowl and it's enough to keep my wife and I and my neighbor stocked up with fresh eggs all the time. About five weeks ago, one of the hens had her neck torn open and died in the chicken pen that I put them in at night to protect them from predators. The guineafowl are wild as can be and do whatever they want since I bought them more than a year and half ago when they were little babies. They generally sleep on top of the coop. Since you can't catch them and they fly pretty good, I let them do whatever they want. I lost one about a month ago and the other one went missing a week later. Nothing but a few feather to mark their being taken at night. So I put one of those night game cameras out to see what it was and say hello to Mr. Bobcat. This little beast is not afraid of all the light around the chicken pen and that will be his downfall. You can see he came over at 1:00 AM to check for any birds loose and then again at 3:00 AM. I guess it's a regular stop on his nocturnal wandering. I don't hate him because he is doing what he is made to do but his days are numbered now. It's about 75 yards from my back porch to where he is with my 22-250. Maybe a slug in my 12 gauge would be better at that range. Or buckshot. I will only get one shot.

I'm against hunting predators for sport, but when they start taking livestock they become fair game.

Just buy him a collar and a litter box and he will love you for the rest of your life...
(which will probably end when you try to put the collar on him)

He went from being interesting and pretty to flat out evil and needs to be destroyed when he started eating my birds.
Plus there is something creepy and disturbing about a creature that sees in the dark and skulks around my barn at 3 in the morning.
Something I'm not used to. Kind of like having some kind of monster out there in the dark on my place. Makes the hair stand up on the back of your neck if you have to go out to the barn at night.

We've got bobcats on our places, too. They don't bother me, I don't bother them. I've actually forbidden my lease hunters from shooting them. Of course, I'm way out in the sticks, you're practically in the middle of town where you live.
When a cat that size gets that bold and shows practically no fear of being lit up by those lights, he's dangerous. He's been in fairly close contact with humans all his life and has lost most of his natural fear. That cat will end up hurting somebody eventually.
If you use a rifle to shoot him, make sure you've got a clear shooting lane behind him for nearly a mile. A 22.250 round will carry a long way if you *cough* miss.

Magnificent animal but I completely understand your position on this situation speed.

Well, if one doesn't want to take a conventional pest removal stance, you can always... ...go completely random.

Dude that is one very healthy looking bobcat!
I like the idea of the 22-250 from da porch. Say goodnite Irene.

That sounds like the work of 2 Bud Light-swilling rednecks who have "3" or "Harley Davidson" on at least 80% of their clothes, including what they'd wear to weddings and funerals.

Has a tail, makes me think it's not a bobcat, more likely a regular cat.

If it's not a bobcat, it's the biggest cat I ever saw. Plus he has those stripes down his back.
My wife's Harley is on the other side of that wall to the right. Maybe I better move it before getting out the big gun.

It is a long-tailed bombcat. They are becoming more common these days. They have a tail that is 12" or so long. The standard bobcat tail is only about 6" long.
If you contacted a wildlife center they might come out and trap it since it is more of a unique animal.
Unless it isnt really a bobcat... it is hard to tell without a better face or profile shot.
