No real difference in performance on my machine either. Stutters and freezes are still there, if not worse now. How many more months will it take until we can actually play?

I have a small fps incease after the beta patch, plus I can now put 'trees' or forest on now and not get the awful pea grean soup over water, so a definate plus on that side..
As to my problems with the 'grass' settings, they are still there, can't put grass on at all or the game refuses to load any mission after about 95%..
On the plus side, I can now see all the names of airfields etc in the fmb, which I couldn't before..

All in all more plus than minus!

Am I right that Propeller graphics are implimented properly now? Flying a Spitfire I throttle back and can see the prop slow down. Don't remember that before.

For me the stutters/freezes appear to be less dramatic compared with pre-patch but possibly more frequent when flying round large towns. The fps is very acceptable 40-50 fps but micro stutters are still there.

Less hope they can work on the multicore processor support and get that patch out soon as possible!

Frustrating YES but this is a long term thing, hopegfully this is a SIM that will be with us for another 10 years like IL2.

It just doesn't make sense! il2: WOP looks great and works buttery smooth! Il2: CLOD broken and being released in stages... do you think they mixed up the engines?.. I bet WOP is optimized for Quad core when it was released a year ago.

The focus of beta testing is reducing impacts to users, often incorporating usability testing. The process of delivering a beta version to the users is called beta release and this is typically the first time that the software is available outside of the organization that developed it.

What to look for:
1. Changes in performance please report whether its gotten better, and if so, by how much.
2. Any graphical bugs or glitches, especially with landscape, buildings and trees.
3. Any other unforeseen glitches and bugs.

Played around with video-settings again. I set Land Detail and Land Shading to low. Increased Buildings and Buildings Details to "high". Switched on Roads and Grass (Shadows are also on). Also set Forrest to "High".

The result was not that much worse than before. Still: It was worse. Single-digit FPS values. Over London, the game looked a lot better though cause all the houses hide the ugly lo-res terrain textures.. wink

The interesting thing however is, again, the GPU-usage. It should be maxed out, but it clearly isn't. Note EVGA-monitoring-values in upper left corner. GPU-temp, GPU-load, GPU-core-speed plus VRam currently used.

GPU-usage/temp-history of that mission:

If anything: My system seems even less taxed than before but the result is just as laggy.

No, they probably didn't. Each system has different devices attached to it, different hardware manufacturers, different driver versions and etc.

So, no, they probably didn't test on the same kind of PCs.

I don't understand the almost pathalogical hatred being shown by some people.. IC cannot possibly have every combination of pc out there, thats why we were given the 'Beta' patch so we could report further problems.. It really isn't rocket science.

Fact is they are now doing belatedly what they should have done in the first place, namely BETA TESTING!!!!

Shame the penny did not drop earlier really.

Well, you did buy a car after it was released to another market and identified as being a lemon. Kind of your fault.

Latest from Luthier..

Hi everyone. Thank you so much for helping us test this patch!

Some additional points:

1. The no-full-screen issue is actually a WIP feature. Until today, CoD only supported a pseudo full screen mode, i.e. a stretched window with no borders. Post-patch we'll have three modes: window, pseudo full screen, and true full screen. We just don't have a GUI switch for it yet, and it can't set it right.
This will be addressed in the live version of the patch.

2. As the patch mainly addressed graphics, the performance gain should have been most noticeable on older machines. The faster your videocard, the less increase in FPS. Eventually your CPU becomes the limiting factor.

3. We do have some additional optimizations that didn't make the beta, like I said. Trees are now a bit faster, and we've optimized block loading, the periodic load-unload of large terrain swatches as you move across the map.

4. If you cannot launch the game, I don't have a fix at this time. We're trying to figure out why this may be happening. Probably a version mismatch somewhere, or it may be connected to the #1 above.
If you wish, you can downgrade to the earlier version by simply right-clicking the game in steam, selecting Properties, and then going to Local Files - Verify Integrity of Local Cache.

And the most important note. If you notice REDUCED performance, crashes, or any kind of other crippling issues, it is extremely important you post your system specs including your version of Windows. That's the only way we can troubleshoot your problem and make sure it disappears by tomorrow!

Thanks again everyone, please keep at it!

For me.. very nice improvement!

Over water no stutters at all! all is smooth and real joy.

Over land , much much more smoother, yes there are some micro freezes but WAY less then before! I like beta patch a lot.

Resolution 1920x1080
Visuals, Models, Decals: HIGH
Forest LOW. Buildings: MED, Shadows: ON, Grass: OFF , Roads: ON

dual core 3,2, ATI 5780, 4GB RAM

I now cannot seem to play in 'full screen' mode, it just covers 3/4 of the screen....great. I have lots more options RE: Resolution, have had 2 CTD's whilst previously having none (Launcher.exe not working). Some FMB features appear to have been fixed. Anyone know how I can get back to full screen (yes its ticked in options) if at all?

Now my entire control setup which I spent fuggin ages painstakingly setting up has been wiped out for the second time and planes are now uncontrollable. Can I be arsed to do it all again? Is it really worth it?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. hahaha

Actually, I don't even know why I'm laughing, its not even funny anymore; but what else can you do? Lurching from one effin calamity to another. hahaha

What a load of shyte. Buh-bye CoD! (For now at least, but like General MacArthur I shall return. Probably. Meanwhile back to a game that actually works (WOW!) called Rise of Flight. Try it out, its great....You'll think you've died and gone to sim heaven!

No, it hasn't ruined my life, lets keep things in perspective. smile It's just such a comedy of errors I can't even be bothered anymore. Send in the Clowns! biggrin

What a shame.

"Finalized trees improvements. The overall framerate gain was actually smaller than we thought, but it can still be optimized further, just not in the time we have. The microfreezes are gone."

No, they're not. And thanks for informing us up-front the game would window. Kind of a big thing not to mention. And...strange.

And again with the BS excuses..."As the patch mainly addressed graphics, the performance gain should have been most noticeable on older machines." Something else that was conveniently not mentioned before the event. And...WHY do improvements show only on "older machines"??? What is this, a Win98 convention on games for old clunkers? Top-spec hardware counts for nothing with a 2011 game? One that, apparently, crys out for cutting-edge kit? Again, how convenient..."If you don't see improvements, so sorry, you have too good a machine." What kind of mangled logic is that they're trying to con us into swallowing? "Your high-end rig runs the game like a dog, swallow it while we get it running good on old clunkers." screwy

But the biggest mystery is how ANYone can defend the game, the devs or the publisher. THAT absolutely beggars belief. I can't get my head around it. "Protecting the genre" is it? If this is what we're protecting it for, so we can have more of this kind of broken rubbish, let it die, it's not worth having. Others have said it better than me...letting them get away with this is the worst service we could do for the genre. "Oh, chuck it out there, it doesn't matter if it doesn't work, those mugs'll swallow anything AND thank us for it. We're GODS I tell you!"

This is the shabbiest botch of a game I've been involved with since I can remember. And anyone who thinks they're going to be able to bolt multicore onto the code when it should have been written in from the start, and succeed, clearly has not a clue about how it all works. This is, without a shred of doubt as far as I'm concerned, old IL2 code with new stuff hacked on. And yes, it is hacked on, the evidence is right there on your monitor when you try to play it. Fixable? NO!
