Knowing how they (1C) have treated German AC and official German sources regarding technology and/or performance in the past, this wouldn't surprise me. It'd also be pretty silly, since the E-4 was the LW's workhorse during the BoB, and it has one of the most widely-known features that distinguished the LW from the RAF during the conflict: Its wing mounted 20mm cannons. E-1 was the last 109 with MG-only-armement ... The E-1 and E-4 variants bore the brunt of the battle. On 31 August 1940, fighter units (excluding JG 77) reported 375 E-1s, 125 E-3s, 339 E-4s and 32 E-7s on strength, indicating that most of the E-3s had been already converted to E-4 standard. By July, one Gruppe (Wing) of JG 26 was equipped with the Bf 109 E-4/N model of improved performance, powered by the new DB 601N engine using 100 octane aviation fuel.[8] Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Messerschmitt_Bf_109_operational_historySo that's 496 planes with the 2xMG + 2x20mm FF (or FF/M) cannon-configuration vs 375 planes with 4x MG configuration. I guess that's one of the reasons why almost all games involving the BoB have featured the E-4 as the standard model.

from what is listed in the Russian preview there is the E3, and E3b, maybe it will be in the release patch, i remember with the original release of IL-2 the 190 from memory was released in this way!

Why not include it, the model is all done and ready, i thought this would of been the main fighter for the Axis if you were creating a BOB sim.

E-3 should be alright, E-4 would be more accurate, though. The only important difference that comes to my mind is the E-4 being equipped with the 20mm FF/M cannon which could fire the more destructive "Minengeschoss". I just hope that in return the RAF gets stuck with their two-pitch-props ...:P

The fact that only 9 E-3s were recorded as being destroyed throughout the Battle was a result of their conversion to the E-4 sub-type - 295 destroyed. There were 94 E-1s lost, 35 E-7s and just 2 E-8s. The rest of the 109Es lost have not been recorded with sub-type - not from British sources as far as I know.
These figures appear to have been compared to werke numbers e.g., E-8 6395 and E-8 4906 etc.

When original IL-2 came out there was no Emil and no F4 but an F2. The missing 109s came out in patches months later. Does the E3 have Jabo capabilities? If so there really isn't much difference is there? If not I can see the point. A 109 Jabo is a nice little weapon.

IIRC, the E-4 was the first 109 to get a bomb-rack (E-4/B). However: This variant was not available during the BoB. Same goes for droptanks, which weren't introduced before late 1940 on the E-7 (again: IIRC).

Tree. I'm surprised you were not aware of the E4's "absence". The only difference was the more square canopy and the E4 has the 20mm MGFF-M wing cannons. The 20mm MGFF cannon installed between the powerplants cylinder banks was excluded in the E4. (many E3's had this cannon removed in the field. Cannon was unreliable) If you change to the 20mm MGFF-M wing cannon with improved ammo you have an E4. All the developers have to do is square the canopy and implement the different ammo and cannon. The E4/N, introduced in mid 1940 had the improved Daimler-Benz DB601N engine that used 97 octane instead of 87 octane. This one will be a bit more work and maybe they don't want us to have an uber 109 right away.

Why not?. German fighters loss relative performance as the war passed. As a German pilot I will like the tables turned.

If we got the E4/N at release you can bet your last shekel that's the only 109 you're going to run into online. This way we have something to look forward too. Just like the Bolton Paul Deviant. Another flying deathrap I would like to play gunner in. As a kid I thought that was the best plane the RAF had. A machine gun turret on a fighter! I also thought it had 8 forward firing machine guns. All that would've needed was a 2000hp engine. A WWII Brisfit.

No mass-produced Bf 109 E ever had a hub cannon. The RLM had instructed Messerschmitt to test this feature (since the RLM was very interested in centerline-mounted weapons since they were more accurate) but apart from maybe two test examples (both labeled Bf 109 E-2) no Emils ever featured a central cannon. That was technically impossible since Messerschmitt had placed the oil tank in the space which the breech of such a cannon would have taken up (since early in development it had proved to be too difficult and time-consuming to make the central cannon reliable enough). It was not before the F-0 that a central cannon was possible (after considerable redesign of the weapon attachments and a relocation of the oiltank). The myth of E-3 with three MG FF is an old fairy tale from the early times of research on the 109 and that this BS lives on today shows how many authors simply copied it from earlier works.

Post war aviation literature abounds with examples of incorrect technical information which originated from the war years. The myth of the hub firing cannon has been faithfully perpetuated and is still believed even today! Anyone for the Heinkel 113 or the Me110 Jaguar?

Or, staying with the same AC, the "MK103 engine-cannon"-myth? The list goes on ...
