Yesterday I installed Frist Eagles, an I am in the process to convince myself to keep it in my HD... being new titles very few and far between, it deserves a second chance.

I already knew that a ridicoulously small number of planes were modelled, so no surprise here. I know you can download community created new models, but I think this is the wrong approach to customers.

But what it really shocked me more was the total unsuitability of this sim for aerial combat, due to the constrictions in the field of view of the (dummy) pilot. I was using Track-IR and no model of aiplane allows more than 90 twist of the (dummy) pilot's head.

Am I doing something wrong, is this a bug, or is it simply proked?

Is there a way to incrase the field of view for a limited 60 blind spot at 6 oclock, instead of teh actual 180?

Thank you.

you might want to head over to Thirdwire and ask TK.This sim is MORE than suitable for air combat.Ok TK is tweaking the inis as he goes and his approach has been VERY successful,IF you want alot of planes head over to MS FSX and try them.I'd rather have a limited number of excellent planes than a bunch of second class junk,as most sims seem to do..well excecpt for LOMAC and they killed it when they added the malware of starforked,so that one became a great coaster for my coffee cups.

Ok, what are users doing to solve the restrictios on the views on combat???? external views??? Or this 90-each-side restriction looks real to you? It is more than anoying, and enough for me to delete this program from my HD.

Our concep of suitability apparently is different. My aim is for placing myself in the cockpit of a close-to-real virtual airplane. The actual model (I am not talking about looks, sunsets or other crap) is really deficient in this aspect, as it was before SF:P1, WoV, and WoE.

Any e-mail for TK on the other hand?

Thanks

There are other WW1 sims in development that might better suit you. Or perhaps falcon4 might be the ultimate flight sim for realism. Check out the sticky in this very forum on ini tweaks. Then there is also a search function you might try that will show you several threads discussing improving the views, espesially the 6 oclock view.

"Watch your thoughts, for they become words. Choose your words, for they become actions. Understand your actions, for they become habits. Study your habits, for they will become your character. Develop your character, for it becomes your destiny."

Check out the threads mentioned, the view can be fixed & folks with track IR say its great then. I remember even Red Baron2 had no 6o'clock view when it came out. The developers argued that you can't turn your head around that far for quite a while before they changed it.
A good view of your six should require a kick on the rudder to be realistic IMHO but given the difficulty of adjusting views on a computer compared with real life... Still a realistic 6 view should allow me to see a bit beyond the right side of the rudder while looking over my left shoulder I think. With only a seat belt a pilot should be able to twist his shoulders around pretty far in these planes I think.
Anyway, get the fix and you'll be happy!

Actually, I've read a WW1 account of a new pilot thinking that the old sweats all flew like drunks, yawing all the time. They were checking their tails. Do a turn of your own head; unless you're Linda Blair, it's pretty much what FE gives you.

extract viewlist.ini

change

[View014]
AngleOffsets=155.0,0.0,0.0
[View015]
AngleOffsets=-155.0,0.0,0.0

Now you can check your six...

I'm checking with TK..you not be able to play MP with a changed INI file like that..I know that if you change the FM or DM and nobody else does then you won't be able to play MP unless EVERYONE in the game has the EXACT same files.

Ok, don't miss the point here.

The problem is not how should I check six in a real Sa.5. The problem is that this simulator does not allow the users to look farther than 90 left, 90 right, 20 down, and 30 up, at 1G stright and level.

That is not only unrealistic, but really dissapointing for someone that just expent 30 of his hard earned money on it.

I would like to expand the views with my TIR, to be able to combat normally. That is the point.

I am in the process of learning all tricks others used to expand views, but I am not lucky so far...

Now let me ask. Any of you find normal that users should spend hours searching on the net, plus more horus experimenting, just to set views to NORMAL use, as any other simulator in the market has done for decades? I find it really annoying and frustrating.

On the other hand, this should be a fully developed product, based on previous experience with SFP1, WoV and WoE, but we have AGAIN the very same problems. I agree that tracers look great, that smoke has improved, etc., but still planes appear from nowhere beacuse they can not be seen farther than a few hundred meters (in the case of this sim) against a light background, and views are unsuitable for combat (although great for sight viewing).

Sorry, but I am not really happy with this product so far. I would appreciate any help or advise here, so I can pass the solution to other friends.

Thank you.

GADGET

If you do the changes I mentioned above the game will allow you to look further back.

155 degrees is a good setting as it is about how far you get by turning your head and moving your shoulders slightly. Remember while pilots wherent straped in to the cockpit like a F1 driver they still had their body movement restrcited.

Getting yor eyes to point 180 degrees backwards is quite hard with your butt seated. Since your eyes actually have quite a wide vision range you dont need to put your eyes 180 degrees back to check behind you.

Hence 155 degrees is a good setting to use.
