Team Pacific presents our next WIP New Guinea - New Britain (NGNB)! The 2D map below shows the area to be modeled. This is a 3:4 scale map that encompasses approximately 300,000 square miles of the earth's surface. Due to the reduced scale, the map area is roughly the same as that covered by The Slot. The decision to go 3:4 scale is based on Team Pacific's desire to reduce flight times, and improve playability, without seriously sacrificing historical accuracy and visual impact. Approximately 75% of the research is done, and we have a complete map that loads correctly. We are not sure how many different time periods we will model, but it will be less than six. Here are a few quick screen shots of my first flight over the Markham Valley, just to the northwest of Lae. The first shot is looking down the axis of the Huon Peninsula. The second shows the coastline looking south towards Salamaua. Number three is looking down the long axis of New Guinea, towards the interior...rivers are not in yet.
All the best, FA_Cheech

Wow, that's an impressive bit of work, both what's been done already and what's needed to complete it.
"Less than 6" map variations - LOL!

This is going to be SOOO good! There has been a real need for this map, as the in-game New Guinea map doesn't cover the ground where most of the action in 1943 took place.
An excellent initiatve and judging from the excellent quality of the "Slot" maps, this will certainly be worth waiting for!

Another shot of the map, taken from the area over Finschafen, looking southwest towards Salamaua. We have a lot of texturing to do, but I think you get the general idea.

small update; we have had some building process improvements that will end up shaving a good month or two off our build time. this means 2 things for you guys. 1. you'll get the NGNB map that much quicker. 2. because we would have built, at one time or another, all the parts of it we can now build the area outlined in red soon after.
Hate me now, thank me later

Cheech, this is outstanding. New Guinea was a pivotal campaign in the Pacific, a crucial turning point in so many ways. It's great that we'll finally be able to fly the campaign in its entirety. One question -- do you intend to model Wau, and the "ski jump" airstrip there? I hope so!

ok here is a working map to give you and idea of size and amount of fields now that the 4.09 Ded Svr is out, i can't wait to run some online wars on this thing once it's finished. you can do that on the Slot map in the mean time until we finish this one.

ok , sorry for the delay. we had the map tore up in many parts and hadn't compiled it in while. Here are some screenies from our WIP NGNB map. Textures and the placement of them are sure to change. I grabbed a wingman (never fly alone) and left Wau see the 10% graded strip there in the back ground headed north to Lae. you can see the distinctive shape Salamaua in the distance top left center. flew out over Lae. oh there it is, sediment and all. A PBY was in the area at Finschafen Ran into these guys poor guy didn't make it we went looking for them at Salamaua no luck finding him but he was looking for us coming south out of Talesea he flew by Wulai island on his outbound route from Rabual now that we have the outline of the map done we can start massaging it. I'm begining airfield construction while Cheech continues to texture away and place non airfield related static stuff (towns, villages, ports, etc) don't mind the real pointy mountiains, we fixed that. it's not show in these pics

Looking really nice About the sediment.. is it possible to make the end of the river shallow as well, so that the sediment area does not start immediately where the river meets the ocean but rather a bit upstreams?

I've been concentrating on the Channel and ((not to pick on Canon, they're all like this) would love to be able to put some AA boats up the ol canal. (hmmm, boat up a canal) Your map is in league with the most high Thrud, what Ming said, sept the Prince thing, never really liked Prince

Is the Catalina flyable and question two is that a Catalina. with the mods, all are flyable. in the case of the PBN-1 one pictured above it just has the b-25 cockpit in it and a black cat skin. the Emily has a Betty pit in it.

How would you use your new maps? I've got a campaign (America's Ace of Aces) already done. I had to use different maps to even come close to where the action takes place. I sure would like to make things right.
Bye the bye do you know who is the top scoring US pilot and where he is from? Lol. of course you do.
