Flat terrain makes a huge difference too.
Every summer the family and I make a road trip out to Iowa to visit my folks. I remember getting 32/mi gallon with my old Subaru Impreza in places like Indiana and Illinois basically because of the flat open road. Whereas on the interstate in VA it more like 25 to 28.
That was twelve years ago and I don't have my Impreza anymore.
Now it's a Nissan Murano. My bet is nary a touch on those rates.
