Oh my. This is not good. Hopefully this will have a happy ending.

I did not know there were submarine tourists rides to the Titanic. Money gets everything.

I'm hoping for a happy ending too. At that depth, things are pretty unforgiving. I was trying to figure out if it had tourists aboard, as the article just says "crew." It would be devastating either way, but having tourists on board would seem to make it a bit more tragic for me, since they are relying on the operators for their safety and aren't professionals in this type of work.

Supposedly the submarine is supposed to return to the surface automatically if there is any malfunction.
This does not bode well. I don't know how long their consumables will last or whether there is any way at all to rapidly recover a vessel stranded at that depth.

"e added that because the passengers were sealed inside the vessel by bolts applied from the outside, "There's no way to escape, even if you rise to the surface by yourself. You cannot get out of the sub without a crew on the outside letting you out.""

wow......i would not pay 250k to be part of that experiment...they had a billionaire on board, seems to me they got the premium package and now rest with titanic. there is no salvageable operation at that depth,
what im surprised is, how come they cant track them down there with sonar ?at the very least they should make the subs " noisy" so they can be picked by passive sonar at all times. or at the very least be tethered like those ROVs they send down.

What we know about the search for the Oceangate submersible

Hoping for a happy ending as well.

I have to say though... based upon what those articles are reporting, that arrangement seems really unwise.

The end of ^^^ article

Quote
OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush then gave him a tour of the submersible, where he revealed the vessel only has one button and is run using a video game controller.

" reported that he read a waiver that described the submersible as an "experimental" vessel, "that has not been approved or certified by any regulatory body, and could result in physical injury, disability, emotional trauma or death""

and this is used for TOURISM ?

I saw a Tik Tok clip and had to Google for the full video and found it.

You have to watch this.

This is from December 2022. It shows the submersible that is now missing.

I would not had gotten into it even if it's complimentary invite.

It's just a gaming controller. (They'll probably find it wedged down the back of the sofa if they can't find it)

Inside the submersible

There are thousands of airplanes being flown as “experimental”. I belong to one of the experimental aircraft chapters. Oshkosh is the largest fly-in and it is an experimental event. It just means that there isn’t a production certification and a governing body.

Everyone aboard were adults, not my place to tell them they can't risk their lives in any way they choose to.

I didn't originally think so because it takes a while to get anything down to that depth. I looked it up and it's about 1 hour 45 minutes, which is actually kind of astonishing given that it's 12,500' or 3800m. Unfortunately, there's not much that can reach that depth.

Hopefully that's the case and they just find them floating on the surface.

Just looked at some recent video footage showing the inside of the Ocean Gate submersible. HELL NO. I'm not claustrophobic but there's no way I would go so deep in a tiny sub like that.

And as Blade said, bolted from the outside. 600 kms out and 8,600 meters deep, no chance in hell I would do that. Let alone pay for it.
