A while back, in the early 2000s, my girlfriend told me about an interview she saw with a child actor, whose name she didn't recall, and she said he came across as a real self-important jerk, talking about how the director couldn't properly give him his character's motivation, etc., and that she was glad she never had him as a student (she's a high school teacher).
A year or two later we saw some film with Shia LaBeouf in it, and she told me that was the kid she saw in the interview. So it sounds like he's always been a little self-absorbed, and not just after getting a few big roles.

He was raised by self admitted hippy parents who drank, did drugs and even ran around naked in front of him when he was a young boy so it's no surprise he has a lot of "issues".

She'll (Megan Fox) never be an A-lister herself either, but at least she mended her bridges after setting fire to them. Hell yeah she did. Get paid millions of dollars to wear Daisy Duke shorts or an improved school girl uniform in a Micheal Bay film - or wear orange short shorts over nylons and make $2.13 per hour plus tips as a waitress at Hooter's. "Sir, I have prepared a large collection of things I am offering to eat in order to put things right between us, starting with crow and ending with goose scat. I say this both sincerely and with the hope that my deepest apologies will suffice and the repast before you will take only symbolic relevance."  Seriously, if Bravo Network came to me and said we want you to round out the foursome in a reboot of Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, with the pay "only" being 35K USD an episode and there "only" being ten episodes a season, well, two snaps up to that!

Shia Lebeouf's best work by far was the NYC HWNDU webcast, too bad he was arrested early on, the lulz were epic.
In fact I've been meaning to download that whole stream.

No one likes him. I pray for him though. He's a very angry kid. I take it that criticising Spielberg, Bay or other filmmakers who long ago left the firm ground they once stood on, will not promote your career in Hollywood  But isn't being ignored by some of those types a greater compliment? Everyone nowadays wants to see hero soldiers and shooting action. I do not want to see this end in PWEC, so just saying that talking or showing of what war can do to these soldiers is probably not the cash cow as certain other films. The film appears to be pretty interesting, but it did not even show up in the cinemas here in Germany.

As long as you don't mind being a starving actor who only gets cast in low budget independent films.

Yes, from watching the first two Transformers movies you never would've guessed that she was the smarter of the two actors. The woman knows what you need to do to survive in Hollywood when you have meager talent.

My personal theory is that he really regrets torpedoing his once promising Hollywood film career and engaging in bizarre behavior like this is his own twisted way of trying to bring attention to himself so he doesn't fade into obscurity.
