Even though I have a Warthog I would still consider that throttle and maybe even the updated T16000. The Warthog is good but for some games I would appreciate lighter controls. If the slew control on the throttle is indeed like a console controller's analog stick that would be great. To me, the Warthog throttle's major flaw was its slew stick; this would be a definite improvement over that.

I wasn't expecting anything major from TM so I am pleasantly surprised by the addition of a throttle and rudders to their lineup.

But the real question is what they could have in store for a new HOTAS

I think they missed the boat with the rudders thou. If they were bigger they could compete (and probably beat) Saitek a lot more easily.

From what I saw, the event was pretty low-key from TM: "Hey, Selected Media, come celebrate our 25th with us and see what we've got new and in the works." Then they invited some individuals local to the area.

Speculation and hype ran wild from a leaked copy of the invite when everyone started seeing what they wanted to see. Feeding frenzy over the F-15 that so many people were convinced was an F/A-18 jumping to the conclusion that this event was to release a Hornet stick for example. The only item pictured on the invite was an abstract of the pedals. In addition to the pedals, there's the new throttle, and yes that rocker works very well as a rudder for those who can't invest in pedals. Then the updated T16000, updated TARGET and hints at what's coming next...

As to the pedals...yes, they're kinda narrow - not everyone has a room dedicated to their gaming / simming. They're pretty light...but they slide really smoothly. I was working the DCS demo station along with Groove, and I don't recall hearing a single complaint about the pedals operation. I did hear several good comments on the smooth motion.

The new throttles went over pretty well too I gather, though I wasn't around them as much. I only got a few minutes on one while testing the Elite:Dangerous station. Those were pre-production units, too...

The throttle looks decidedly mid-range, as do the pedals. Someone paying $100 for a set of pedals has certainly stepped into the "Mid-range" of this hobby, presuming entry level is the $30 single stick option.

Those who have an established platform need to be aware that things are not always going to be suited for them.

Can't blame the hardcore audience for that response though; for the second generation of high end TM hotas, TM teased about the possibility of additional sticks, and have (yet again) gotten cold feet. They also tout the customization prowess of TARGET, yet failed to release a set of pedals that match the Warthog in terms of quality.

meanwhile, they certainly haven't had a problem releasing a slew of add on racing wheels for their FFB wheel bases. On that front, they're catering to the hardcore and the entry level with various product lines.

As I recall, The language Thrustmaster themselves used was "we will be Unveiling our unique and exciting flight sim product lineup including our new squadron of joysticks", (emphasis mine).

Now, to me that sounds like a whole new product lineup. Namely because they used the words "new" and "Lineup" and "unveiling." Generally you unveil something that's been...veiled, as in not shown to people. And new generally means "new", not, "actually most of this stuff has been out on the market for 5 years but the head of the company told the marketing dept. they needed to get people to attend this thing so lets be ambiguous and misleading and make this whole thing sound like a bigger deal than it is."

TM have only themselves to blame for the run-away hype.

To be clear: I don't have a problem with the new products.

What I do take issue with is:

1. that they've failed to further expand the WH lineup and directed all PD focus to the mid-low market (the two aren't mutually exclusive, they've catered to casual and hard core sim racers for example)
2. They should have just called a spade a spade, and not played up the product announcement angle. it was a 25th birthday party, with a couple surprise additions to the lineup.

BTW - The TWCS operation is sliding with that S.M.A.R.T. system. Similar to CH PRO Throttle operation.

It is, as you can see on Sokol's pic above. The throttle has analogs for throttle slider, rudder (or other), antenna rotary and the mini stick X/Y.

RJ-12 for the pedals on the TWCS?

How peculiar, I thought that was just an additional interface for the T.Flight HOTAS 4 and those pedals were meant to be a standalone USB offering with TARGET integration (which negates the need for it to be slaved to any other controller), yet now they look like they're meant to pair up with the TWCS for PC use.

This raises the question of how TARGET treats a TWCS with pedals connected. Does it just get three additional axes in addition to the TWCS' five built-in axes (slew stick X and Y, throttle, rudder rocker, rotary), making for a clean 8 axes per the DirectInput device limit?

The RJ12 is for when it's being used with a PS4...think you need to combine controllers or something.

The pedals have an RJ12 connector as well...along with an adapter to connect it to USB.

The TWCS has its own controller (not a slave) setup in TARGET.

Rudder with RJ12 cable, universal RJ12/USB adapter unit, 2 removable differential brake heel-rest,

Probable work in similar way of VKB BUS connector to chain controllers.

TFRP first impression:

BTW - TFRP width is ~31 cm 12.20" - distance between pedals ~5.5cm 2.16".

its a fine throttle and pedals for like...my sister. im glad that theres easily accesable options in the store for them to grab off the shelf and get into the game.

but i think alot of you guys imagine a hardware company like thrustmaster to be alot more than it is. I worked in hardware in silicon valley ,and i even once did the software for Saitek's flight gear configurator in Adobe Air.

youre thinking of something like a car company, and perhaps Logitech is like this, but these companies are like a family of people, maybe less than 30 permanent. a handful of creative product designers, probably even contracted out of france or germany, that make a design, they have the parts fabricated in taiwan like everyone else, and try to update their line, and fulfill demand, produce multilanguage brochures, advertisements, and manuals - have someone answer the phones and emails for consumer complaints/issues/returns. a few guys in a warehouse. some fat chick answering the phones in an industrial park somewhere.

there is no 'they', its just like this guy probably doing all north and south american advertising for his meager little hardware company in canada, by himself, and hiring a design guy for a single day to put together the flyer you saw and all took-apart to death.

take it easy on these people. CH products? those guys have been in business, like TM, down in san diego / irvine, since the 90s doing their little family thing. they hired a designer to make their sticks , which were timelessly awesome and made them money for 15 years, and so to wonder where your next product is... good luck.

i love how thrustmaster has literally pushed this small niche market forward. making them all reach-out of their wallets and produce the G940 or that X65 or whatever, and every decade producing something in the 400$ range for us in metal. their fantastic and i just cant support them enough!

Looks like "they" don't know the "hardcore flight simmers"* biggrin or consider then when design their products (except Cougar/Warthog)...

BTW - CH was sold for APEM goup in 2008.

* The true is: 1 "hardcore" simmer = hundred of War Thunder players = thousand of "UFO pilots" in Spacial Games, so they should look where? wink

All IMO but the throttle is just what I am looking for because it slides forwards and backwards.Sitting at a desk with a throttle placed on said desk requires a throttle that doesn't pivot. The hats and the thumbstick will always be orientated with a sliding throttle. When I purchased Warthog HOTAS awhile back I was ready to make a stand for it that had the throttle at an incline position to make the full forward position comfortable to use. Then I sold it for a CH throttle.

Same with a stick but this has not yet been implemented.A perfect stick for me is one that the handle itself is smaller than real life.I have large hands yet still feel uncomfortable to hit the top hat switches and buttons.I always felt that thrustmaster hit the nail on the head with their original stick size.

Sadly,so many people complained over the years of how they want replica sticks and I feel thrustmaster lost sight. And then they want long throws and voila a horrible stick to use at a desk.Just test your self by grabbing a virtual stick in your hand and visualize a short stick compared to a long stick.A short stick moves by a flick of the wrist with no real pains while a taller one causes all sorts of wrist action.

Thrustmaster if you read this......please make a stick with the size of your original sticks. salute

While I am here....many people use their rudder pedals with the ball of their feet placed on lower edge,as myself.IMO a perfect rudder system, for desk use would be one that has very small pedals that allow the user to manipulate the toe brakes with just the toes or a pivot of the feet.

In TFRP the USB controller is not inside the pedal case, but is external, in small box (similar to VKB T-Rudder Tiny Box):

This USB controller "T-RJ12 USB Adapter" is used too for car racing pedals T3PA and T3PA-PRO, and have a Car - Plane selector.

http://ts.thrustmaster.com/download/accessories/Manuals/TFRP/TFRP_User_Manual.pdf

So the RJ-12 connector in this pedals. The RJ-12 connector allow TFRP to be plugged without the T-RJ12 USB Adapter in the TWCS throttle and use their internal USB controller, became one unit for Windows/Games, what Tm call "Ecosystem". wink
