I've mentioned DCOC for Prepar3d in the past, it was an eye opener for VR in sims, and this is even better. It's already at a stage where it's working great, and in the future it will have great functions such as floating 2d windows for the ATC or addons windows.
One thing that came up pretty often here on simhq is that people still think that since VR HMDs operate at high fps (75 for DK2), you need to get the game rendering at that impossible framerate. They conclude that VR is far off for great looking and complex sims. This plugin (and DCOC too) illustrates perfectly how this isn't true if you use asynchronous timewarp. With this technique, you can do things like truely render the game only 30 or 40 times per second (but allowing for a bigger FOV and anticipating head movements) while you update the view taking head movements at the desired high framerate (75 fps with the DK2).
With that I'm able to run FSX with 3rd parties weather addons (REX), 3rd party scenery (OrbX regions and airports) and planes (even LevelD 767 or PMDG 737), all of that in glorious VR. You've got to try it to take the measure of how truely awesome that is. Flying a 767 in VR means that you're really sitting in that cockpit and perceive everything at its true scale. I particularly love the feeling of getting access to a virtual museum just by being able to sit in iconic planes, be it a Trimotor, B17, B377 etc, some of these in which I'll never sit in real life, not even at airshows. It's an awesome time for flight simulation!
