Why are you pointing at Steam reviews anyways? Look they have BoS rated higher than RoF. Most enthusiasts as I see it would rather have BoS actually be more like RoF. Including me. So pointing at those scores isn't helping. If anything it makes the case for casual gamer appeal which is probably who shops on Steam.

I didn't.

Why do you care what I point at or don't point out?

What difference does my opinion matter to you?

It seemed to matter enough in the other place to band together with your pals to see me branded a hater.

Strange.

Hmmm...well these stats only reflect folks that purchased FSX 2 months after BOS was released. As in...the new Steam version released December 2014.

...and now BOS numbers:

So...looks like "enthusiasts" would rather purchase or even re-purchase and older sim. The "arcade" players aren't biting and will most likely never come over to BOS/BOM in numbers when their are better and cheaper alternatives for their arcade flying fix.

I realize their will be excuses on why these stats are wrong...I suppose as long as we choose to ignore that enthusiast's is where BOS might stand a chance...this title will be sunk.

IMO

Oh...might as well put one of the most complex flight sims available stats up too.

750,000 owners...yeah...complex flight sims don't have the numbers. screwy

True, BoS doesn't seem to be doing well with the simmers. And the casual gamers on Steam are abandoning BoS faster than they can sell it. But what we don't know about are the secret customers who's numbers are legion who have bought BoS and play it daily. They can't be found on the BoS MP Servers either, but they exist, really they do...really!

Do you think 1CGS would share the existence of this top secret customer base, or how they reached them through marketing that did not include Steam or similar gaming media? Of course not. But rumor has it that 1CGS is broadcasting secret radio waves around the earth that reach potential customers. Its called stealth marketing. But it can't be explained to mere mortals like us as we wouldn't understand it because only their top secret customers can receive the radio waves.

BoS is actually the hottest game on the planet. And the best kept secret hahaha

You know DCS World is free right?

Hey I wish there were that many players for DCS but their numbers online are about the same as every other flight sim. If only 1/10th of 1% of those people ever were on a server it would be a big day.
I like DCS a lot but I can't imagine 700 page study sims appeal to that many people. I would be glad to be proven wrong there.

Glad you like it, it is awesome. Really looking forward to the new update.
You do realize DCS has modules right? Many modules? Pretty sure each module is not a 700 page study sim. There is also a good reason it has had such a good run, and still going. There is a lesson in there. I don't much worry about the future of DCS at this time.

More to the point, I think you should prove yourself right... at this time you are only opining. Basically, throwing stuff out there to see what might stick. But then based on what I have seen in the past, not surprising.

While often at the same time posting very realistic, frank concerns about the long term future of BoS on the BoS forum. He went through a period a couple of months ago where he sounded like one of us on the BoS forum. It made me do a double take while reading his posts.

Its like a Jekyll and Hyde act between the two communities. There's no need for that, Sharpe.

I have the same concerns I think everyone does. I'm just more optimistic.

I think DCS is great. It's a different type of product than RoF and BoS though. With the exception of Flaming Cliffs, which is the same sort of simplified system air combat sim. The study sim planes are fantastic but they're too complex and expensive to use for an air combat sim. It would take ED 20 years to make a game like BoS. I say that with all due respect, it's their level of quality that would be the hinderance. In any case they're a great product.

Huh? I ran with a VAS for over a year in DCS. We did weekly coops with groups for every single aircraft available sans the props.

Did I not use the KA-50 for an air combat sim? I could have sworn I did...

By "air combat sim" I mean a game like CoD, BoS, RoF or Flaming Cliffs. A game with a set of opposing aircraft and a map. Flaming Cliffs has that. But notice the aircraft aren't full system planes. It would be impossible to create a game with 10 or 20 planes all to the level of the P-51 and Dora. It would literally take 20 years to make it. DCS Mig-21 or F86 aren't air combat sims. They're study sims. Not that they aren't really well done and cool. But it's a different type of flight sim.

Again.....huh?

So flying the Sabre and Mig against each other is not considered a flight combat Sim because they are complex? They are planes with a set opponent with a map...just like you said.

With all the othercomplex modules being made for DCS, I don't see it take ng 20 years to have a large plane set, complex at that, in DCS.

You don't make sense. Not sure if its on purpose or you are just really confused.

DCS currently has the P-51, Bf109, and Fw190. That's three planes. How many did BoS come with? I guess 8 or 10 depending on whether you consider the premium planes or not.

How long will it be until DCS has 8 or 10 WWII birds? Another 2-3 years is my estimate, although it might shift a little. Still, I think it will be far less than 10 years at the outside from P-51 release to the 10th WWII bird, which is within the life span of Windows XP, and 20 years is a ridiculous period to claim.

How many years will it be until BoS has the campaign system promised in Dev Diary 21? According to Loft, it will be a lot MORE than 20...

If DCS F-86 was an air combat game like these others it would need a bunch of other period aircraft besides just two, let's say a dozen to make it realistic and interesting. A period map of Korea. Period ground units and environment. A career campaign.
Just like Rise of Flight or Cliffs of Dover etc. it doesn't. That's not to say it isn't great in its own way but it's not the same type of flight sim. And making it that way to the timetable we've seen so far from ED would in fact take a decade or so. It takes them almost two years to get one of these planes developed. So multiply that by 10. Seriously. Hey I'd love it if they had that kind of content but I'm not going to hold my breath. I do think what they have is great and definitely worth the money.

DCS is a combat simulator, the clue is in the name, ED are not the only ones building content for the series.

The Jedi Master

I'm pessimistically exaggerating 20 years. I hope. Still how long did it take to produce the P-51 or Dora? Over a year at least. In the same time frame 1CGS made an entire game with 10 planes and we're getting 10 more in a month or so. Now absolutely these aren't to the level of DCS but that's the point. What makes an "air warfare" (I'll change my term) sim fun and interesting is lots of aircraft. It's ok if they're simplified systems planes and DCS has done the same thing in FC.
Hey I hope I'm wrong with the prediction of how long it would take them but so far it's slow going.
