If I'm using a laser with TGP, say with LGBs, which mode should I use for stationary columns of tanks?

None.

To find the stationary column, use GM (Ground mapping).
If they move, use GMT (Ground Moving Target).
Once found, slave TGP to the area and start moving mud - radar isn't really important from here on.

Good trick is to put mark-points on each side a stationary column, then switch those steerpoints slaving the TGP for a good view.

Just don't go below 12000ft and get beaten up like I too often do.

+1 on the mark points, as the TGP would sometimes go berserk once you are close to the targets.

Another useful trick is to map the zoom in/out/default callbacks to something within easy reach. This makes it easier to zoom in really close and spot the "dirt trails" the ground vehicles leave behind.

What a concept. To be able to see "dirt trails". Never have been able to get the zoom mapped to my hotas. However, with TGP now in my head it's obviously pretty important.

I used to just map the "2" key (2D HUD view) to my HOTAS but it was only useful when making a ground attack run and limited use when trying to search for targets, so I mapped a zoom in, zoom out, and zoom default key to my HOTAS and I use it while on 3D view. It is useful to zoom in when looking for ground targets manually since the ground radar needs time to sweep an area plus it has its limitations so sometimes it is quicker to scan with your eyes then drop via CCIP. Obviously this is best done when dropping CBUs or Rockeyes.

Zooming in is also useful when trying to get a guns kill on a dogfight. Once the enemy is in front of me, I zoom in for a better view of the HUD/pipper, and is also useful for VID-ing bandits/bogeys.

Really appreciate the time you took to explain that. I'm finally getting a little confidence with the TGP. I've been playing Falcon4 for how long without knowing I could zoom the TV? Or even how to use the TGP? Kee-riced! driving
