Hey guys, what am I doing wrong this time?

Just finished updating to 1.2.3 and now I can't enter multiplayer at all. Just get the desktop loading screen.

I've already tried re-installing after deleting all my config files, etc. (Don't worry, they are backed up.)

And this comes AFTER the auto-updater failed when my PC went into power-save standby mode sigh

Edit: Turns out I can't do ANYTHING. Just tried loading a mission and got the same result. Just stuck on the loading screen. Then DCS crashed trying to re-load the front menu. banghead

Eh Mol...

The only one in the SLmod folder that you could load is the 1.2.3- which has been opened and resaved as has been mentioned above. It's odd that they wouldn't repair you, however... yet they would rearm? I know in that case it's a radio command and not just automatic when you shut your engines off (in the A-10 at least). I'm wondering if there was just a step missed in the repair process? USUALLY as soon as you shut down the engines on a damaged aircraft a repair starts but this isn't the case in the Highway.

I was able to get the server back up and running- the disconnect was temporary and I think network related... everything was as it should be when I got back on through TV.

I'm also dabbling in a shorter term mission (again)... sometimes I get tucked into an idea and then lose confidence in it and scrap it. The concept is similar to that which I was working on before with my Roadblock mission- in that the backdrop is that resources have been smuggled into a foreign country to assist with combating a lucrative military drug smuggling operation. Government officials and loyal government troops have arranged for "windows" of opportunity to search and destroy in designated areas- but these same areas are, not coincidentally, protected by troops well paid and treated by their criminal military leadership. The idea is to penetrate the airspace in question and patrol for convoys in an effort to identify the location of enemy warehouses. JTAC on the ground will penetrate the area as well to assist in the hunt. Tankers will be on station so that aircraft can zip out of the contested airspace and top up their tanks before heading back in again. The mission will have to occur at night and at reasonably low altitude. Defenses will be minimal- the challenge being more about low cloud cover in undulating terrain, while trying to spot enemy convoys and following them to their endpoints...

If you drift too far off the beaten path, or destroy something that wasn't meant to be destroyed... enemy fighters will come up to intercept and your way home will be blocked.

Anyone got any ideas as to what may make it interesting?

For that sort of mission aside from the vehicle mounted JTAC's there would likely be friendly Special Operations Forces operating in the area as well; you could add in some random events which would involve ground forces (Infantry) taking on enemy soft skin vehicles and enemy infantry if the SOF guys get compromised or for instance a chopper gets shot down and you need to secure the area until casevac arrives; while at the same time still having assets out hunting the convoy.

Kind of a clear and present danger scenario- I like it and it shouldn't be too hard to make work out.

Sorry X-ray I missed that. Any chance your firewall detects it as a changed program and is blocking it in the background? (Mine did that at first) Have you tried a repair dcs world? How about a reboot? I know that helped one of our guys... Blooze I think. Rebooting seemed to bring everything back in check either way.

X-Ray, you might also try uninstalling then run a reg cleaner to get rid of any left over DCS files. Sometimes helps.

I did already manually delete everything from Program Files... I've tried multiple reboots and reinstalls, and when that didn't work, I reinstalled 1.2.1 and auto-updated from there.

When it finished... the exact same problem cropped up. (For the record, everything worked as usual in 1.2.1)

I can install World and fly the SU-25T, but when I install A-10C, nothing works except the GUI. Going into missions or multiplayer causes the same thing - desktop loading screen just sits there doing nothing.

All in all, I've spent about five hours on this now.

I dunno, I guess I'll have to join the ED forums and ask there, but [pessimism]this is looking more and more like something that might not be fixable until the next patch.[/pessimism]

Looks like I may not be in this Friday night guys! goodnight

Saved Games/DCS/ Folder. Delete it after you uninstall (or try deleting it now). (or just rename to /Saved Games/DCS-2/)
Some people have something in that folder that seem to botch installs (and this folder isnt deleted after uninstall)

Also:
It will sometimes hang with a prompt waiting on the desktop to activate.

The Saved Games folder was the first place I went Skate - this isn't my first rodeo with DCS patches.

Clicking the DCS taskbar icon or the screen itself during the desktop load results in a "not working" message and program shutdown.

EDIT: Okay, now, this is some cryptic voodoo bull-shilka. I saw someone mention something about holding L-shift when starting multiplayer. It works. From the desktop only, not the GUI. WHAT THE HELL.

Hmmm.

I've been running into issues, too, but I was able to run Back To School briefly this morning from Hollo Pointe.

One issue has to do with Windows 8 and Teamviewer - when I TV into the Hollo Pointe server I can start the DCS Multiplayer w/o any problem. But when I start the DCS World (like in order to use the Mission Editor) the screen will not display the DCS World program - I just get a blue circle 'wait' cursor. I have to fiddle with Teamviewer Charms and Single Window menu items before the DCS World screen will display properly - and that doesn't always happen! I've sent numerous emails to Teamviewer about this problem - they take a looong time to reply and in their last email some new person asked for screenshots - well I already told them where they can dl DCS World for free and see it for themselves.

For some reason the Hollo Pointe fresh install did not go well. When I first tried to run the new .exe to install the update I got a failed message about having modded the program (Slmod?). I backed out the Slmod changes but still got that message. I had to uninstall DCS World before I could run the full update. I like running the full updates vs a patch for major version changes.

After I did get the install done on the server, when I went into the MP and tried to run a mission I'd get a DCS Stopped Working message. I wondered if this was because I had not saved the mission in v1.2.3 - but that was not it. I did see that from MP Options I could not see any choices for Connection Speed - the drop down list was empty.

So last night I uninstalled again and reinstalled. I did not remove the Program Files' DCS World directories or the <user.\Saved Games\DCS directories - I just did the Control Panel uninstall. Then I tried to start the DCS World program and ran into the Teamviewer screen issue and gave up again - for another night.

Oh yeah, I rebooted the server and could not get back into it and had to call my dad in law to power cycle it :-(

This morning I opened the server in TV and could see on the desktop that three instances of DCS World had been opened up. So I killed those instances and started DCS Multiplayer - this morning I could see the Connection Speed options in the drop down list and was finally able to put up Back To School, which I'd saved under v1.2.3.

Tonight or tomorrow I will get the Render3D set to False and put Slmod back in place and should be back up and running.

---

Last night I also did the install on my home machine - again using the full download. I got the same odd failed message about having modded the files but I had not modded anything on the home machine. I uninstalled and then installed the full new version and that went OK. After saving Back To School in the new version I could host it in MP from the home machine so that gave me hope that I could get the server to work, too - I was beginning to think I was going to have to haul the server back home to work on it.

---

XRay - are you using any language settings on your computer?

I have been noticing the Japanese input method editor has temporarily disappeared whenever the problem has arisen. My PC is of course Japanese, and the thing is standard - it's not something you can just switch off as far as I know. But what do I know biggrin

Edit: Can't be that I don't think - just tested the L-shift method and the JP IME disappears then as well (when I can actually join multiplayer).
It must disappear as standard when you start a game. Makes sense.

you're not supposed to be able to run the Full ISO installer overtop of the previous version installed.

Ie 1.2.2.7750 already installed, and just running setup to overwrite it.

What does LShift do when starting Multiplayer? I searched but did not see anything about it.

Skate - well the message could be better, then. Like, "Must uninstall previous version."
Because my home machine is on a DSL connection I did not want to tie up the desktop with the auto-updater for a few hours, or many more.

Oh also - I'd really like to know what the Mission Editor bugs are..

yeah, the Full Installer wont install over a previous version. Old Version Must be uninstalled.

less hassle for server boxes, as you dont have to worry about controls and Activations, just SLmod stuff.

All the M.E. bugs i reported to ed are on edboards by other users now.

I personally just let the updater run, as it was only going 1.5kb/sec for me anyway, so i hid it on the side screen and kept on facebooking and stuff.

Lshift should being up module manager/license manager

Co-inky-dink, or what...? I just got another email from the Teamviewer folk - the first guy I had communication with - asking for a screenshot. OK, OK, I'll make a few and send them...

Keep in mind there is another dcs folder in c/users/(name)appdata/local as well when you're trying to scrub everything. Looks like you figured out the issue though! (X-ray)

Crew I'm not sure what's up on your end right now but if you're looking at doing total uninstalls don't forget that file.

Eno - what file?

Also - I was reading the DCS Forums about the Export.lua file - did you do something for that on the Firehouse?
