What a pile of absolute crap.

All i wanted to do was install Mass Effect 3, i've had it laying around as i got it as a present, and now i decide yeah i'll play this.

Wrong. 6 hours now, Origin is a waste of space, 80% every time it errors whilst installing from disk. EVERY TIME!

So i searched and used a few help things to little avail. Then i see a thread where if u delete it all and just install origin without net so it cant update the game will install, well it took the files off the disc and said "ready to install" i click it, it pisses about for a while before doing nothing and the "ready to install" button appears clickable again, and i repeat and repeat and nothing.

Money grabbing wasters. What a waste of time. Whoever invented Origin and decided it was a good idea must have the same intelligence as an undeveloped sperm cell because only someone without a brain or any kind of computing knowledge would of designed this. So i've now got a game i cant play, well done EA well done!

I have loads of games on Origin and never had a problem with it.

Could be a problem with the disc, or could be a firewall issue and it's not getting let through. When it stops, alt-tab over and see if you have a firewall pop up.
I'd reboot if you haven't already, try again. Or if it gives you a download install, go that route.

okay tried all the above, no luck its crap, EA worst games company ever!

I'm not sure I understand the problem . . . you paid for the software right? EA appreciates your support.

i didnt pay for it however it was a sealed physical version of Mass Effect 3 brand new as a present, problem is, it finally downloaded into Origin, then it popped up "ready to install" the thing is it never installs so i cant use the software i have paid for because Origin just doesnt install it, i cant do it manually either to bypass it, i click install wait 5 minutes and nothings happened and the "installing" icon disappears i hover the mouse back over the game and it says "ready to install" again.... ive tried numerous restarts, refreshes everything and no luck so i have no idea what to do, the help section isnt helpful at all either and i couldnt get hold of any help on their chat help thing because that as well refuses to work :/ ive completely cleaned origin off the system and reinstalled and nothing still

anyway ive now completely cleaned again and left it downloading rather than using the disks see if that helps :/ and since that is gonna take a good 9 hours to download im off to bed, if it doesnt work i may just have to hulk out and smash stuff

No probs here either. Here's a possible fix that took literally one second to find:

okay so now my question is, how do i edit the registry? ive never touched the registry before :/

Start > "Search programs and files" type "regedit".

Be careful to only modify the registry as instructed, accidental modification can destroy the universe.

yeah i mean ive loaded up regedit and gone to "bioware" -> "mass effect 3" but ive no idea what to click to edit the registry to do with the game once im there

The first post in the link has an auto-apply reg file that you can download. You just need to right click "Registry patch for Mass Effect 3 �Ready to Install� issue." and Save Link As... to your desktop, and double click the file to auto-apply.

okay ive done that and it's not worked :/

Read the following posts, you may need to edit the reg file and re-apply.



Also, I've downloaded the file in question and it's not saved properly. You'll need to rename the file extension from .txt > .reg, which may also require you to un-check "Hide extensions for known file types" in your Folder Options > View tab.

If you have any problems I can modify and upload the file for you.

okay im gonna have to ask you to upload the file lol ive just broken it LOL

The above assumes the default directory for a 32 bit OS. If your Mass Effect 3 directory is different and/or your runnin' a 64 bit OS, I can modify the file accordingly.

yup 32 bit OS is me, cheers i will let you know if it works, i closed origin earlier and just opened it up and it's saying i have to download the game again looks like another 10 hours :/

And that didnt work. Even after downloading the game fresh, exited origin as it said after downloading, ran the directory thing loaded up origin, clicked install and still looping.

EA ARE OFFICIALLY THE #%&*$# BRAND ON EARTH. Mega pissed off now tbh, i tried the other fixes none work.

EA arent helping matters by not having a contact us thing running at all. Only one they have is for privacy user contacts no help or support at all and i cant afford to call them

Even Ubi is getting rid of always-on DRM.

EA really screwed themselves by not selling on Steam.
