Got a question about the SA-3B:I believe it's SA-4. Max. altitude for SA-3 is 18 000 meters... Also, the highlighted box in my screen shot is NOT where the sr-71 is at during the current time step. The sr-71 is located at the last box on the upper path.It seems to me that missile just didn't got it... I am not familiar with SA-4, but try to shoot when point of impact is a bit outside of killing range. Don't forget that SR-71 takes a turn over the target area thus means that it lowers the parameter and approaching faster. Missile must climb in high angle and just "slips" away.... You can check also AAR here in the topic, as I remember Vintorez bring it down with SA-4. Use "search" button.

As I see the future of the SAMSIM in depicting western SAM systems, I realized, how little I know about the eastern Anti Radiation Missiles... There were basically two competing design from the two major air-to-ground missile design bureau, and as usual, both designs were fielded. In 1981, the " Zvezda" design bureau fielded the Mach3, H-25MP (AS-10 Karen) missile with two exchangeable self guiding heads, one against the Nike Hercules, while the other against the Hawk SAM system. This missile had a 90.6kg warhead, while it weighted 311 or 320kg depending on guidance head version. The following planes could be armed with it: MiG-23BK, MiG-27M/K/D, Su-17M3/M4, Su-24M, Su-25, Yak-141, MiG-29M/K

In 1982, the " Raduga" design bureau fielded the Mach3.6, H-58U (AS-11 Kilter) missile with universal self guiding head, against the Nike Hercules, Hawk, and Patriot SAM systems. This missile had a 149kg warhead, while it weighted 640kg. The following planes could be armed with it: MiG-25BM, Su-24/M, Su-17M3/M4, Su-25, MiG-27

It seems that first western system will be Nike Hercules... It's pity it was never used in combat, so no historic scenario would be available (anyway, it would be interesting to try it in Linebacker-II scenarios). Same with those Soviet ARM - they are not used in combat (as USSR or Warsaw Pact never atacked other countries).

Oh no, the USSR only helped fight counter-revolution in Hungary and Czechoslovakia. And wanted to help Afghanistan. Same with those Soviet ARM - they are not used in combat (as USSR or Warsaw Pact never atacked other countries).

I have no data about using ARM against Hungary, Czechoslovakia and Afganistan. As I know those countries had comunist goverments, and their Armed Forces didn't fight against USSR and Warsaw pact.

Please observe the restricted firing zone of the KRUG system. (at manual page 26, point 6)
The target is not within the restricted firing zone. In fact the other missile on the same column seems to load up just fine. I'm going to check some of the other indicator lights (ГОТ. СПК, СРП t=0, ГОТ. Д, and БР СРП ). ^well, that sorta got messed up. @Piston will try! Here is the first shot. Note how everything is fine. Except for the fact that the missile is not ready to launch even though it has spun up properly. In second shot I simply change to SPU-2 and I'm ready to fire at the radar reflector.

If you would launch from the SPU1, you would devastate your SNR...

Thanks! Now I get it. So the positions of the SPUs on the SA-4 are sort of like the SA-3's.

Any prove about they really used them in Georgia??? The hit on this "Flat Shield" could be from allmost everything... I don't believe those to be capable at least as AGM-88 is... P.S. Jak-141 must be written Yak-141 (like in 5Ya23).

And there were earlier ARM designs: KSR-11, carried by Tu-16 bombers (in service since 1962, range up to 170 km, 0,9-1,2 Mach, 684 kg warhead); Kh-22P/Kh-22NP, carried by Tu-22M2/Tu-22M3 (5,5 tons launch weight, 350 km range, Mach 4,6), fielded in small numbers; KSR-5P, carried by Tu-16 (since 1972, Mach 3, 300 km range); Kh-28, the first tacical ARM (in service since 1974, 120 km range, speed 800 m/sec), carried by Su-17 and Su-24 before Kh-58 became available; The first three could be equipped with either conventional or thermonuclear warheads.

The ARM's were certainly used there, although it is not clear what exactly took out that 36D6 "Tin Shield" (not "Flat Shield"), the damage seems to be too light for a powerful ARM warhead. The Su-34 bombers also saw their first combat there, employing their "Khibiny" ECM suites with great success, suppressing the Georgian SAMs completely. But at the beginning, Russian Air Force seemed to be surprised by the Georgian air defences, suffering surprisingly heavy losses. Only a few days later they realised that they not dealing with some insurgents in the mountains, but with well-trained and somewhat well-equipped opponent...

Article in Russian: http://www.vko.ru/DesktopModules/Article...version=StagingFrom what i've heard before (and also mentioned in that article as well) the Buk is highly vulnerable to jamming.

Vulnerability to jamming is highest weakness of most Soviet radars, especially those of fighter aircraft. During trials of Tu-95MS' jamming suite, it was able to completely suppress the mighty radar of MiG-31 interceptor, so it could not fire at all.
