CTD's can be caused by a multitude of issues, and any amount and combination of those issues. If the CTD's were exclusively a memory leak issue, then my system would eventually crash but it doesn't.

No, you deserve it for constantly attacking anyone criticizing CloD or its development.

Just getting pretty sick of your personal attacks on me in this forum by you Frey, im not bothered about your posts Frey, i dont have anything against you or your videos so why do you attack me personally every time i post?

Do me a favor and have a look at the description of this forum.

Please post only the following topics in this forum:

- Development speculation on Cliffs of Dover release dates
- Motives of the Cliffs of Dover developers
- Whether Cliffs of Dover bugs will be fixed
- Whether Cliffs of Dover should have been released
- Whether Cliffs of Dover is fundamentally flawed
- Business speculations on the viability of Cliffs of Dover
- Cliffs of Dover comparison with other products
- How Cliffs of Dover has been promoted
- Release versions

I argue all the time with Chivas and others here but they dont resort to personal attacks. If you cant stop yourself then why post in here?

Potentially, yes - depending on context.

Definitely not.

*edit* If anyone has issues with moderating PM me - but if anyone returns to discussing it in this thread, I'll end up having to lock the thread permanently. Okay, guys - back to talking about the update.

The memory leak is causing most CTDs Chivas if the forums are correct.

Is there any confirmation of a memory leak? I mean, other than the fact that the video card is quite busy when the sim is running?

There is undoubtedly a memory leak, and I'm sure its a problem on many systems, but its only part of the problem. I take what the forums members are saying, including my own input, with a grain of salt. Yes there are a couple of very knowledgeable people but many appear to be immature, with not enough knowledge of the work required to be patient. I wish developments like this were is as simple as many people think they are. We'd be inundated with great combat prop sims. This is how illogical people are when they compare the development of ROF to COD. COD is many times more complex in every respect, and it will take that much longer to complete. People say the COD has been in development for eight years, which is partially true, but work really never started in earnest until IL-2 1946 was released in what 2008.

So why didn't Luthier tell us its going to take over 12 months to fix back at release Chivas?

If you read Luthiers update posts and patch threads its all about fixing things quick and new exciting content thats almost ready! road maps for the next few months and so on...we all know the posts about SLI fixed, new 2D clouds and something fantastic that's almost ready but he cant say!...what was that all about then?

I dont think Luthier knew things would end up this way, i spoke to Luthier at the Birmingham flight sim show when CLOD was first announced and his and Olegs enthusiasm was plain to see and catching.
Since then a long time has passed and things have changed, Oleg has gone and it seems quite a few of the team.
I think Oleg left about 2 years ago and Luthier took over the project and what was left of the time and he tried to make the best of it and thought he could make do with what he had for the release and fix the rest later. Oleg was kept on for PR purposes and left the very day of release.

They cant fix CLOD.

Luthier knows this and is playing for time and trying slowly to take the attention off CLOD and on to the sequel

CLOD has so much wrong with it its beyond fixing and will never be what Oleg dreamed it would be all them years ago.
almost every feature is broken or not as intended.

Single player is a bad joke
AI is terrible
Radio Commands still almost unusable
No DX11
No FSAA
No COOPS
No dynamic weather
FM that is off historical stats
DM is still no working correct
Ground handling not correct
Physics needs reworking
Sound not finished
No SDK
No server docs
Exe crashes mostly caused by a memory leak

Luthier tells us its going to take more time to fix the memory leak that they introduced in the last patch so what chance of getting the rest fixed by the time of the release of BOM?

Luthier is playing a damage limitation exercise with CLOD thats all nothing more nothing less, some people buy it some dont.

Smoke and mirrors.

Now if you belive Luthier that it takes 12 months or more to make new planes in this series...

How long ago did they start working on BOM then?

If what you say were true, the development would have shut down months ago. There would be absolutely no point in keeping the development going, unless of course you think they are lying about that as well. There is no sustained money in smoke and mirrors.

No they are going to make the money on BOM.
I dont think its a scam, i dont think Luthier set out to deceive anyone, they wanted CLOD to be great...they just cant do it in the time frame before they need to move on to BOM

Like you have said Chivas its a business. Time and money.

The work on BOM started long before COD was released, and at the time I first heard of it, I thought it must be third party addon, like the Galba addon. Personally I think the people working on BOM were integrated, along with Luthiers Galba team to help finish COD. BOM was probably the most complete, and the need for more investment monies soon made it the most likely first sequel.

Highly complex aircraft and cockpits no doubt take a very long time to develop, but the new game engine, takes far more time, and produces far more bugs than any object in the sim.

There is no conspiracy, there is absolutely no monies to be made in this genre worth conspiring about.

I think some of the performance issues will be fixed before BOM is released. How many more issues are fixed depends on how long it takes before BOM is released. The AI, FM, DM, Performance, etc aren't BOM specific, but series specific, if the people working on some of these specific items have made progress worth updating, I can see no logical reason they wouldn't provide the fix, before BOM is released. After BOM's release they will continue to provide updates that include fixes to all core issues. That said the developer will have to have many of the issues addressed with the sequels release if they expect to start making enough profit to stay in business.

How do you think they would do that if they are going to be shifted over to BOM support after it's release? I don't think your point here is illogical at all. I'm just curious since they seem to be stretched thin as it is.

The business model is too release a new theater every year or two to sustain the development. The first theater was released long before the game engine was completed and optimized. This has forced the development to not only work on the game engine, and existing theater, but also the next sequel. They will in no way stop the development of COD as all aspect including AI, FM, DM, Commands, Graphics, apply to all theaters. New campaigns for COD will probably come from third parties and the community, just as they did in the original IL-2 series. The development will remain stretched thin until the game engine is complete, and critical features finished. If and when the game engine and critical features are fixed and finished, it should be clear sailing, with only new features, and theater work required.
