If you do a SAMSIM in 3D, than I stop developing mine.

I wonder, what would it take to create a 3D environment that would be required of a strela sim? I'm kinda hooked on that now.

Im bad at programming and math to do coding, my speciality are graphic design and 3d.
We all shall deciede future of SAMSIM after Dvina. smile

Creating own 3d game engine is tremendous work, its much easier to make content in existing SIM / using SDK.
btw, Armed Assault series have arcade like strela / ilga systems.

Oh, no, not that, I mean the strela vehicle, not the MANPADS. This is a system with an electro optical sight. I wonder, how does it lock on a target? Does it lock through the missile, or through the sight?

Over an optical sight, beside the PU.

Yeah, I know that, but once the gunner has the target acquired, is it the electro optical sight that locks the target or is it the missile seeker. Nice image, where did you get it from?

I'm not a Strela expert, but I doubt that it has any auto-tracking feature. Like a manpads, it is pointed towards the target over the optical sight, that is parallel with the missile, and the missile locks itself.

Nice image, where did you get it from?

Like, the gunner locks the target with a button on his handstations once the target is within a circle on his sight?

Would you be interested in collaborating with me on a project to visualize SAM simulator engagement data? I have a little experience with modeling, but I am far more experienced (and, frankly, better) at programming. I already have part of a graphics system implemented, but I would quite like help with the modelling part. There are dozens of different vehicles and systems just to get the basics of the systems, never mind the whole battery.

A question I had (for everyone, really) is would you like SAM simulator 3D (or whatever) to be a stand-aside application, or a plugin into another program. The advantages of the stand-aside, where the 3D engine runs alongside the core SAM simulator is somewhat evident, as Hpasp could use it to drive something like the Shilka. Disadvantages include that it would take forever to finish, and probably wouldn't end up looking as nice. The advantages of using a plugin, probably to something like MSFS or X-Plane, are also quite evident. It would allow you to shoot at your friends (it's all fun and games until someone gets a V880N up their tailpipe, or more accurately, within 500 meters), as well as taking something like a quarter as long and most likely ending up looking nicer, but would be misery to get to run in SAM simulator, and would force you to own the supporting game.

Can You create the Patriot Panel?
It could be used in the future...

Quick question about S75 system.

I've been goofing around with jamming and managed to guide missile into a jammer without ever turning on my own radar. Missile came within 30m and exploded. Is that even possible?

Also, somehow I saw my own missile on radar that's in passive mode. (unless it registers residue from command channel)

Yes. During Linebacker-II the Weasels were complained about not detecting enough target...

The missile and target channels are separated.
The missile carries an active beacon, so the missile channel is always receive-only.

You can switch the missile/target/both indication on the "A" screen.
(missile channel - R [down], target channel - C [up], both [default] - middle)

It's not necessary to turn on transmiting, jammer transmits because of you wink.... Just track the middle of jamming area, the Weasel is somewhere there... smile

Use plotting table...

Or just use "Rabota ot V.M." switch, with radiofuse on "USU" mode (in case chafs are droped, like in "Linebacker" scenario)
