Suspicion of HDD issues with the game were what prompted me to buy the SSD. It's made not one shred of difference. Hopefully my findings saved some people similar expense.

It' simple, there is WAY too many ground objects.. Notice when you get above 3k feet (in lesser popuated areas), it starts to improve..

But the same issues with FPS and stuttering exist when every single tree has been removed and buildings are set to their lowest possible levels.

Just got back and gave the ol Russian version a try.

A bit more playable, with these caveats:

- Downed the resolution to 1680x1050 and no AA, and on a 1920 LCD it fuzzes over like bad AA anyway smile

- Still using the RAMDisk, mainly because I had it set up already and steam updated. Have no I/O bottleneck now.

- For patches/optimization (deep breath) It is worth clearing your DX shader cache files every update. COD's are in:

C:\Users\THENAMEYOURMOTHERCALLSYOU\Documents\1C SoftClub\il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover\cache

Blat it all before running, as the M.O for this team is they may have forgot to clear it out in code...

- DynamicalLights=0 is still important on mid-range. Roads off helps too, everything else is just resolution and those damn trees.

- Final advice (and you're going to hate it) is turn off the FPS counter and just fly for a bit. If you obsess on a number the game will feel slow whatever (and yes, I don't think the sim is good enough for release just yet, just saying that FPS counter physiology comes in to play sometimes)

Played the 9 stukas vs 6 spits / 6 hurr and had a good time. Although why my wingmen want to level bomb ships, I've no idea...

I'll do a proper profile tonight to see what's up.

Hey Frog,

I can backup that claim! If you lower your settings down one.. For example, if your Native setting was 1920 x 1080.. take it down to 1680 x 1050. There is a lot of improvement and there is a lot less warping and shimmering. Hopefully we will have more answers in the coming days.

VERY EXCITING!!

Big improvements with patch in my low end system...can play the campaign finally...extremely promising for the future and all those doom and gloom merchants can give it a rest...it's only been out a week and already there are substantial improvements....

To all those who have constantly moaned and stated it wouldn't be fixed etc etc even though the game had only been out a week can now take a running jump....if you all carry on moaning you really are going to look very stupid indeed...

If my low end system is running it OK even over land bar the few hiccups here and there I can only see a very bright future...

Having some great dogfights now and it can zip along at a fair rate...though the first few seconds it takes abit to get going...then alot smoother...

Post-patch video, after having switched off AV-watchdog.

IIRC, there should be about err .. 30 planes in that mission. 12 hurris, 3x6 bombers and 6 109s .. could be a tad more. Bomber altitude was 4000m.

Looks rather smooth apart from one big stutter (prolly Fraps more than anything in this one case). Without capturing, I was getting about 30 FPS average.

Overall: It has gotten better for me - but it's still not what I'd call "playable in all but the most extreme situations". If they can further improve it at this rate (per patch), we should be good to go by fall 2011 or so. However: I have a sneaking suspicion that there is no magic-bullet-solution here. Still have my hopes pinned to improved multi-core-support, but right now it's just that: hope ...

Ahhhh bloody hell so it sounds like Clod is still running as #%&*$# as ever, brilliant. Just got up so haven't tried it but won't till later as it's upgrading day today!! 2500k come to papa, I know it probably won't make a difference with Clod but I "needed" and upgrade anyway. Will report back on performance post upgrade out of curiosity more than anything. Putting this sim on the back burner 'till then, good luck to the boys in mother Russia get optimizing comrades or it's off to the gulags!

Oh wait, sarcasm right?

We don't need to convince you that CoD has utter crap performance on pretty much all rigs, just the devs. Oh wait, we already did that and they are working on optimising the graphics engine. Wow, who knew that whinging could be so lucrative and get such good results.

Ah, it is so good to be proved right by the actions of the very developers that you and the other sychophants are so keen to defend. neaner

You may just be overrating the power of the whinge there 2005, many less vocal people gave clear and concise info on where the issues were, whilst still supporting the devs, this was done without jumping up and down like some of the children on here and other forums have been doing, hi Werner and nuggetx , I would think that would have been of a lot more use than those who came in here saying the game is totally unplayable, or it's same engine as Il2 etc.

Ok just tried it so I can at least get a benchmark before the upgrade, I've actually gone from "playable over water, not really over land" to absolutely screwed ++++ it's a slide show over France. What have they done!?!!? My gfx card is a 6970 mind you my CPU is a e8400 3.0ghz (yes I know its old school, I am upgrading today, no not just for Clod) but I have no issues in other games. Wow, step backwards for me here.... frown

That is exactly my reaction - 320x240 was much more typical in the mid 90s and many sims didn't support higher. In 1998 800x600 was considered state of the art (for consumers). I know of one sim that went much higher - but it was developed by a company that had specialised in 3dFX testbeds and the higher no one ran the higher resolutions. For the most part almost no one had monitors capable of 1080p until the mid 2000s (the old CRTs tended to suffer refresh rate drops above 1280).

So, running at 1024, but rendering much more detail otherwise is exactly what I'd expect from a new engine (heck, it is the maximum I run RoF at).

Jesus. rolleyes

Yes, we are. I can play RoF at 2560 x 1600, could do that before I upgraded my CPU from a Q6600 to a 2500k in fact. Oh, but hang on, it's because CoD is so much more complex and demanding than RoF? All those FM and DM calculations etc? Guess it's a good thing I have four cores running at 4.5ghz then, what with CoD being this new state of the art game with a state of the art engine. Sorry...what was that? CoD doesn't do multicore?!

This game has code so borked, an engine so screwed, it should have been chucked in the bin, six years of work or not. They've struggled to get it to THIS level of performance and you seriously think there's anything left to squeeze out of it? Oh yeah, they're going to bolt multicore on after the event. Good luck with that.

I'll give every patch they provide a fair shake, but I have zero expectation of success, and about as much hope. Said the same about ARMA2 and was barracked for that too over a year ago, but who's 'laughing' now.

I have genuine sympathy for Luthier, I truly do, because I know he put his heart and soul into this. But something, somewhere, went very badly wrong. And no amount of cheer-leading is going to change that or produce a miracle out of a hat.

It is quite a bit more complex than ROF and the cities are quite a lot larger, I play ROF quite a lot and online it now runs quite nicely, I have an 8800gt the same set up as I had when ROF first came out and post patched CoD now runs better (still choppy over London, but my card is ancient) than the ROF ran at release, there is nothing wrong with those on here with problems posting factual info to assist in getting CoD running well for everyone, but your rubbish has become so repetitive and boring, if the game needs chucking in the bin as you say, then follow your own advice and bin it, then go away and find other people to annoy, I know you think your whinging is being of assistance but it isn't.

Danosh, have you checked that no settings have changes post patch, your cpu would be totally bottlenecking your gpu as well, I am sure, well I hope that if you are upgrading the old cpu you will see some large improvements, I have gone from no chance of flying over London to being able to fly under the Tower Bridge, frames arent great but compared to what I was getting they are a large improvement, oh and I can now see servers listed in multiplayer.

Hey Tiger yeah I know my CPU needs an urgent upgrade doing that this morning, having said that Werner also has a 2500k and is getting no joy though his gpu is a little older, we'll see later today. I am running most medium to low (e.g. Buildings and forests) models, decals etc on high was running those specs before and I could sort of play it but now it's seriously a slide show?!?! Weird off to buy components...

P.S. the Americanos owe the World's United Clod Beta Testers big time! Not only is everyone trying a bizzillion different configs, resolutions etc but we are stimulating the world economy through purchasing upgrades before this is unleashed in the new world wink

Danosh Im running an I7 920 with an 8800gt 512 so I need to upgrade my GC but with ground detail low to medium and planes etc on high I can for the first time fly over London, and take off and land, still low fps over London owing to the card but not stuttery and the dogfights over the sea are now quite smooth, for me and my settings this patch has been a massive improvement to quote the OP.

The beta patch didn't do a great deal for me but this has made it very playable and my multiplayer is now showing a server, great patch IMO.

Hope you have luck with the new CPU, even if it doesn't help this game, all your other games should play a lot better I would think.
