I'm sorry caller, the correct answer was "Yes, or I might let someone else do it there's a big drink in it..."

This is like expecting people to come clean your dishes. It is like having to have a car to go 20 feet away. Mostly it is like having to have someone read your mail to you because you can't read and won't learn.
Batch files are simple, basic tools to help maintain your PC and files. Unless perhaps Copy a File is difficult?

If you're comfortable working in a DOS environment maybe. But everyone is different and peoples ability with their PC's vary. What is simple to you is a mountain to others, and while you think you have written a fantastically efficient batch file others will snear because batch files are sooooo Windows NT.

Batch files are like stone axes. They get the job done but you have to get scarily close to the intended victim and his associated bodily fluids

Yeah right.
This is difficult:
create a save folder
text edit a .bat file: copy path\file_1 path copy path\file_2 path
make a shortcut to the .bat file
OMG! That would take like TWO YEARS OF COLLEGE TO LEARN!
Back in the 80's I had customers that wanted to save money by doing things themselves. But... that didn't include learning SIX commands to do simple read and write operations.
And those same commands are actually used in Windoze, over and over in the menus. But I guess that rt-click and choose is Power Users Only territory!
I'm frankly surprised most people can read. If they hadn't learned as children before they knew they might not have to then they would never bother and live on lame excuses.
SO here's what you do. You find the files and you hand drag and drop them into a save folder and say to yourself "Wow, Windoze has saved me a lot of work from learning DOS!". Because even if you have to relearn where to find those files or to write a How-To and find that every time you want to save your game-state it still has to be easier than to learn that terrifying and complicated (as ABC's) world of the command line!
I've got to go and contemplate how few people can probably dress themselves with those tricky buttons and zips and which arm goes where. They must wear velcro shoes as laces and knots would require a PhD or something to learn.

It's like dying of thirst with a water spigot and cup at hand because you only know how to open a bottle or can. No bottle or can = no drink. Water taps and cups being sooooo complicated.
I'm sorry if anyone feels bad but OMG this is just that basic. It's not like Windoze doesn't use the exact same commands in the same way. But the idea of running a text file is like the height of ... something impossible when *really* it's the other bleeding way around!
Seriously, Micro$oft has twisted things around so badly for so long it's like watching politics.
BTW Smosh -- I'm working on being the next John Cleese, right?

Next he'll be saying to RTFM.
Neal, your age is showing; have a little patience with the younger crowd, who have never seen a blank screen and a blinking cursor in anything but a movie. Writing batch files is Ancient Dark Magic; the meaning of "Hello World" to most living peoples is simply a misquote of half a line in a movie.* And no, they have no idea why Notepad is on their system.
There can be some hilarity and disaster with batch files if one doesn't know what one is doing. There isn't an "undo" safety valve with batch files. They are speaking as the High Command on Windows systems; take-backsies are not allowed.

Your system backup is your undo. Trusting hardware enough to run without being able to reload is... if I say it, I might get banned!
* It should read "Welcome to The World; may I take your order?"
That would require user I/O, wouldn't it? And who actually makes the message "Hello World"? Hmmmm, the ones who'd happily write or edit accounting programs in RPG?

You're just being silly now. Everyone knows that backups are things that belong on the "Things I Should Really Do, But Don't" list. After all, we have Restore Points for that. Unless one uses batch files. Then it's just gone. So who can name the movie that goes with the quote?

Then I guess people will just have to believe that backing up two simple files requires a game patch or special program to be developed.
It's like hiring a taxi in order to cross the street because walking is too complicated.

If the sensible shoes fit......
Somebody want to help the helpless by making him the batch file he needs? And then showing him how to set up a Windoze shortcut?

On "doing the homework" bit, a funny (and true) story from work.
A few years ago one of our less-than-computer-savvy employees was complaining about the slow speed of the intranet at work, and demanded that I help her "fix" it. I'm not part of our IT department, but for some reason she thought I could make it all better.
As the network problem was in fact a network problem and I had no control over the server, I naturally straightened out her LAN cables (the zeros slip through fine, but the ones can hang up in kinks due to their pointed shape) and propped a binder under the cords to get the siphon effect on data to speed things up. There is no joke like an old joke, after all.
Yes, it was cruel and funny, but she swore it really helped out.
We're moving out of our present building and she was giving instructions that an empty binder was a real priority in packing and had to be placed with her computer.....so I got a second laugh at a joke played long ago.
Our IT people did ask me about it way back when with a chuckle, but decided to leave said binder in place as it caused fewer complaints. Any time the server got choked this user would simply take to straightening cables and not bother anyone.

Actually I've been waiting for some kind of response from said person. You do realize that over 50% of getting started in batch files is involved in doing this? To some people I guess that would be daunting. It's harder getting started on Hyperlobby yet....

Said person either you're slow on the uptake "Say honey could you check my input port out in the quiet time after work when I'm all hot and sweaty? Bring tools and your good self to the stationery cupboard shall we say six o'clock kind technically-minded stranger?" or your wife is standing behind you isn't she

I think I've seen that in a SF book, or a reference to one.
Voyager I?
or was it Pioneer?
