You should check out “M” starring Peter Lorre. Classic German crime noir film from 1931.

The description makes it seem like what I like -- with a little more interwoven plot that unfolds (a good thing).
I tried to watch. But, turns out I had to sign up for a subscription and pay (I don't pay for Amazon films and don't want to set a precedent). Moreover, the movie was in German language -- and the English voice overs were said to be made at a time that "voice overs" did not work well -- they were said to be garbage.
BUT!! I looked up similar films. I was able to watch something interesting. "The Triumph of Sherlock Holmes" (1935). One of the movies where Moriarty dies at the very end of the very last scene (only to arise in different Sherlock movies -- in other words, Moriarty did not die even in the movie -- he had planned that emergency escape -- but you don't learn that until the next Moriarty movie arises -- i.e. a typical Moriarty ending).
I've studied the issue. Now I have a series of Sherlock Holmes vs Moriarty films identified to watch. Some do "end well".
So, things turned out just fine. Thanks for getting me started in this direction, PanzerMeyer!
I'll check the versions out. At least one is newer than the one's I tried.
The one's I tried had very blurred English -- with my hearing, they just did not work. Reading on-line said all the older versions had that poor verbiage.
These versions seem newer. Of course, "beauty is in the eye of ..." We'll see how I see it.
Edit: I've become an AI nutcase lately. That makes me think an AI will probably make easy work of providing an English version -- any year now (if not already).
For my personal preference I never, ever watch a foreign film with dubbing of any kind. Subtitles only please.

Sherlock Holmes: The Woman In Green 1945 (in Color).

Watched it for the second or third time (over the years). Don't remember if I had watched in Color. I don't memorize films or tv shows or RPGs. Its watch or play and forget the details; then, if good watch or play again years later.
The very end of the film with Sherlock "drugged, hypnotized, and literally walking a "type of plank" towards a long fall to his certain death" is "rare" for a Moriarty film (there were many Moriarty films). Its Moriarty who normally loses and seems to die (usually by falling far) -- but only temporarily and we see him again in the "next" Sherlock vs Moriarty film. But, after this "final" ending, there are no more Sherlock vs. Moriarty films with this cast.
Finally I have gone back and finish Stranger Things Season 5 Part 2 From Christmas Day and New Year's Eve.
A good ending but it shouldn't had taken that long. That 3 years delay between season 4 in 2022 and season 5 in 2025 really took away some of the excitement over the series.
That is a frightening picture of Supergirl Crane. FWIW I am watching Barbecue Pitt Masters, I love to BBQ and Smoke, great show if you like that kind of thing.
Lst night I rewatched Sahara from 2005. A Clive Cussler adaptation starring Matthew McConaughey and Penelopev Cruz. A fun movie with good sfx and I was well entertained.
Ridley Scott has made a couple of stinkers that were quickly forgotten about.

What kept me watching though was it feels surprisingly advanced for the era in terms of cinematography, almost like a '70s or even '80s produced movie that's set in the '60s.
It's also likely the first film to feature the mighty S&W Model 29, with the main character using one 4 years before the first Dirty Harry film.
I just finished watching through one of my MST3K boxed sets. One film in the set that caught my special attention is “City Limits” which is an ultra low budget post apocalyptic film from 1984. Check out who is on the cast:
