Surprised at the draw between the Three Lions and Ghana. Better than bottling it completely and losing though. France is looking good. My money is still on Germany haha.

6 games instead of 4 every day to Saturday. Why the change?

Not a great result, but England are still in control of their fate, and can still top the group. They would have wanted to win and make their third group stage match meaningless, rest players, give others game time. Not the end of the world. As an Enlgland fan I'd be more concerned with the performance than the result

Portugal won big, and Ronaldo bagged a brace. I wonder though if that means Ronaldo continues to start games, after all he scored two, so all is good. But this was Uzbekistan (which is pronounced just how it is spelled for those of us who struggle) and I think the goals flatter Cristiano, who might not hit those same heights against better competition and better defenses. I could be off base here, but I think in an odd way that Ronaldo scoring is a bad thing :shrug:

It's the last matches of the group phase, where both games in a group are played at the same time. There have been infamous last games (that shall not be named!) where that was not the case...

Exactly right. It is done so that no team has a competitive advantage by knowing the results of the other game in the group, and therefore knowing what result they will need to advance.

The English Premier League, and probably all of them, does the same on the final match day of the season. Every match kicks off at the same time on the final day.

And along these lines, as this is the start of the third round of fixtures, each match from here on out sets the teams that are eliminated and those which move on to the knockout round. Some of these have already been set due to the particulars of each group and the results therein. But most teams still await their fate

Yes, tough loss for Canada, who were hoping to top the group, and this result means they should draw a more difficult opponent for the round of 32. Still, it's the best World Cup ever for Canada

Good job by Mexico to win all three with clean sheets. Very businesslike and it was nice to see Ochoa get a run out. He's had a fine career.

South Korea have been one of the biggest disappointments of the tournament so far.

United States plays Turk-ee-yay (as everyone is pronouncing it) tonight and will be hoping to carry the momentum forward. But we should also expect wholesale changes to avoid any injuries to their first eleven, and to avoid the possibility of suspension due to accumulation of yellow cards. So it will be mostly the second eleven on the pitch but they can still get a result. Turkey might be flat, with nothing to play for, having been eliminated, or they might fight hard, for pride, and play free, with nothing to lose.
