Good post Einstein. I tried to go solo against Messmer the Impaler a few times but then gave up and partnered up with two coop players. Even then it took about 3 or 4 attempts before we finally beat him.

Yeah PM he is a wee bit on the tough side for sure.

I need to beat him to enable access to the other finger ruins though. I could have reached them after count Ymir vacated his throne for a while but didn't realise there was a ladder at the edge of the hole and plunged to my death, when I reloaded he was back on his throne covering the hole so I think the only other way to that area is to defeat Messmer.

Slow and steady wins the race though and I'm in no hurry.

I'll be gutted when the journey ends though. No game ever has had me so enthralled, and that's from someone who started playing video games in the late 70s, sheesh I'm old lol.

That being said though, thoughts have begun as to what I'll venture onwards to.

Bannerlord 2, my son has suggested, it looks decent, especially being able to get a crusades mod, it just looks just a wee bit janky for my liking though.

Lords of the Fallen looks pretty good, especially with the recent update but I'm leaning towards Dark Souls 3 remastered, it's pretty cheap and think it would cure any cravings I had for Elden Ring. Still plenty of time though, I'm in no rush.

Oh and if you thought Messmer was tough wait until you fight Starscourge Radahn. I also had to fight him with coop players.

Is there more than one Radahn, does he appear again somewhere else? In the DLC maybe?

The DLC has a different version of Radhan from the one you fight in the base game.

Finally got round to try him again (Elde4n Beast) as I had been putting it off for some time and got him after around the fifth time.

I haven't started NG+ though as I'm still to finish off the DLC.

I have not tried Messmer since he beat me a while back as there were plenty more fish in the sea but I have reached a point where I can't really put him off much longer.

I hate to be stuck on a boss as they are undoubtedly my weakest link in these games, exploring, quests and the like are more my cup of tea. If I can't defeat him I may resort to trying NG+ as I think I would enjoy going back through the game a second time, hate to admit defeat though.

Are you using spirit ashes? Which one?

Yeah I use the spirit ashes whenever possible, just to get the obstacle moved sharpish. In the base game I think I was using mimic or the big guy that wields the dismounter sword (i think).

You get better ashes in the DLC IMO, for a while I was using Meehna the asthetic, they aren't the best but they are full on aggressive and don't hang around but for a little while now I'm using the twin black knights Anna + Jolan, maybe the best in the whole game.

I decided to start NG+ even though it now locks me out of the DLC untill I defeat Moagg. I figured that as I am stronger and have a lot better grasp of the game now the bosses don't seem as scary second time round.

I also kinda messed up the DLC by the actions I took locking me out of someone that could have helped in the Messmer fight so I can rectify that, I also missed a few talismans in the base game so can hopefully pick them up.

I was just curious as to which one was helping you on these difficult boss fights. Do you have Black Knife Tiche? The fight to acquire this one is quite difficult, but the payoff is good. Tiche is strong, excellent defense and hits like a truck. Mimic tear can be really good too obviously.

Hiya PM,

Will you be playing Nightreign at all? What about you Mr Bond, thinking of playing it?

I just pre-ordered it so looking forward to see what it's all about. I have a few concerns though.

I usually take my time and enjoy the exploring aspect of ER more than fighting the bosses so the fact that the map seems to get smaller as you play requiring you to be quite quick in whatever you are doing means I may not be able to take my time exploring, rather it seems to be funneling you towards the bosses but I suppose they have accounted for this.

The thought of teaming up with random people to work in a group doesn't fill me with joy tbh so I hope you can still enjoy the game as a solo player.

It looks amazing though and after, and still am, enjoying ER I took the plunge as it's only £25 on CDKeys so I think it's released next week.

Meant to ask you PM since you finished ER, what ending did you get? I got the age of stars ending as I think they are about 6 different endings you can achieve? Currently making good progress through NG+ and will aim for the lord of frenzied flame ending this time.

Oh yes, I will most definitely be getting Nightreign upon release! I know I’ll be a bit rusty at first since it’s now been over 3 months since I finished Shadow of the Erdtree.

I’ll be watching this on opening weekend! If my wife has no interest she can just stay home!

Just Pre-loaded ER Nightreign. I'll try it out tonight and let you guys know my initial thoughts.

How was it?

I’ve only done the tutorial/prelude so far but it’s looking good. The gameplay is quite different with coop expeditions that you now go on when you explore the game world. You can do them solo but the game isn’t really designed for it. In this way it’s very similar to the Borderlands games.

Thanks, that gives me a vague idea of what it is like. Reviews are mixed. Not sure I'll be picking this one up anytime soon. Probably not my game. But curious to know more details.

There’s a big patch coming out this week so I’ll let you know what gets improved and/or changed.

I actually cancelled my preorder of Nightreign as I realised it just isn't my cup of tea, may change in the future but the fast paced nature is not me.

Still going strong with ER, I became Elden Lord a while back and started onto NG+ which I am in the last portion of completing. I still haven't completed Shadow of the Erdtree, Consort Rahdan messed me up big time, I seem to remember PM mentioning him. I only tried him once so will definetley be trying again.

I am at a strange and weird place just now, having spent close to 700hrs in ER no other game even comes close to filling the void left if I didn't play. I've tried various other games but none come close to what I feel for ER, at 58yrs old and gaming from the late 70s no other game has grabbed me as much which is wild.

I know the journey is coming to an end and that isn't a good feeling if I'm honest, I don't want it to end. I like gaming, I enjoy gaming and as I said I've been at it for over 50 years, it's just a pity there aren't many more games out there like Elden Ring.
