I suspect it was something to do with Steam, Steam overlay perhaps.

It worked OK for me last night again.

Whatever the mouse issue was it seems to be fixed as I've played a few hours with no trouble, and it was happening every five minutes before.

Fire Giant maintains the crown, as the eleventh attempt against Alecto was the charm, and I have the Tiche ashes, which I immediately upgraded to +10 and started using. If I were a magic build I think Tiche would obviously be better than mimic, but as a melee player it's not so clear. I'll use it for a while and see what I think. Tiche is probably more survivable? Great at evading so doesn't get hit as much as mimic I think.

For the Fire Giant check to see if there are any gold colored markers near the respawn point and call in a coop partner for the fight. You’ll get a lower rune reward but I think that is still preferable to being stuck on defeating a boss for a long time.

I beat him a couple weeks ago. He just holds the record for most attempts.

And the gold summon sign there is for Alexander. I used him a few times, tried it with him and without him. When you summon Alexander you can't use Torrent so I tried both ways.

I did read it but misunderstood what you said about the Fire Giant maintaining the crown. I thought that implied that you hadn’t beat him yet.

I know some boss fights give you the option of calling in a human coop partner instead of using an NPC.

True but I won't do this because I don't want to open up to invasions. Invasions invite hackers. Hackers ruin saves and games. So I'm going solo all the way through.

If I cannot beat a boss on my own, or with spirit ashes, then he will remain undefeated.

I've beaten every one I've tried so far, eventually, and I'm 'only' level 169. I have 500 more levels to ensure I could beat anyone, and if I still can't? Then hats off to Malenia haha. Yeah I don't know but she sounds tough.

Malenia is epically tough. I tried to beat her about 10 times before I gave up and then called in TWO human coop partners. Even with 2 coop partners it took me another 5 attempts before I finally won. Sheesh.

It's that #%&*$# waterfowl dance move, or so I hear.

By the way, I have complained for many pages now about how the smithing stones work, but last week I finally made it to some areas where I could get enough to bring my uchigatana to +25, so both katanas are now maxed out, which is nice, and was key to helping defeat Alecto I think.

Getting hit by that is devastating. For light armor builds you have to dodge and for heavy armor builds you have to be adept at blocking. In addition to her waterfowl move, she also has what I call a scarlet rot “slam”. Getting hit by that usually means instant death.

I'm not light armor, sitting on 56 poise as mentioned before. But I also carry no shield so dodge it is. I'll be level 300 by the time I get to her, probably.

I watched a video yesterday. It was titled something like 'top five mistakes in Elden Ring'. It was pretty interesting since so much is hidden and obtuse in this game and I learned some new things.

For a long time now I've noticed that my health pool is lower than it should be. That the HP displayed on status sheet is lower than what is shown in the level-up screen, but I didn't know why.

It turns out that I have lost 5% permanent health by letting Fia embrace me. I had no idea, but at least now I know why.

I made the same mistake. I figured the embracing had some kind of story/lore reason behind it but I was fooled!

At 5% it isn't much. With 2,000 HP I lose 100, so not a big deal really. But it's good to know WHY it was happening. I had never seen anyone talking about it.

Still playing Elden Ring and sitting around the 310 hour mark. I'm considering the DLC and will probably start playing that in the coming week or so but still enjoying the base game just now.
I play offline as I hated seeing those marks/messages left everywhere, also when I first started out I thought I had been invaded by a player but now I realise it may have been just the part of the game where that occasionally happens, freaked me out though so offline it was.

I really can't think of a game I have played that has me engrossed this much in it for a very long time so I know the DLC will provide a lot of hours enjoyment.

I went with the astrologer class as I prefer the ranged playstyle although I do carry the glintstone sword which is very useful. I will definitely have another playthough at some point and will play that one with a sword and shield playstyle.

While I have beat the bosses required for the DLC I haven't finished it though so I'm having second thoughts about starting the DLC while not actually finishing the base game, never know I may just hold off a bit and see how I progress.

Currently I'm in Crumbling Faramazula but going back through the map to hoover up unfinished business/questlines etc.

Quick questions: When you start the DLC does your character and equipment carry over or do you start from scratch or if I respec do you keep your inventory, also are you locked into the DLC map or can you revisit the lands between?

Hey man, thanks for popping in. All your stuff carries over to Shadow of the Erdtree, and you can freely move between there and the main game areas, using roundtable as the hub. I have not played it however.

I suspect the invasions you saw might have been NPC invaders, of which there are quite a few. If you've never invited another player for co-op, or invaded a player yourself, you are probably safe from player invasion. Varre's quest will open you up, but there's a solo alternative to completing his quest. That's how I've done it. I have all the messages and blood stains, but I've never been player invaded, and that was my aim. Don't care for that sort of thing. At first I didn't like the messages everywhere, and the stains. But now I see they aren't so bad. Some messages have proven very helpful "Look behind you" just in time, or "ambush ahead" and this sort of thing, proves helpful. And blood stains tell me there is danger afoot. But I get where you are coming from.

Have yet to go to farum azula. I beat Fire Giant and unlocked the forge grace, but then turned around to clean up stuff I've left behind.

Fire giant was the boss that gave me the most trouble so far but after you try a number of times you kinda know what he is all about.

I'm not a great fan of the boss fights tbh, I know that it's part of the game but the part I enjoy the most is the exploration, puzzle solving, quests and the like. Saying that even though I dread when it is boss fight time I have enjoyed every one so far regardless how often I had to try so I wouldn't change anything.

You've done well anyway to get that far, so you must be handling the bosses fine even if you don't like them. I like the fights for the most part. Without spirit ashes I would not like them as much haha. It's very satisfying to win these fights.

Fire Giant was my hardest fight too. Or took the most attempts, so far. That roll he does got me so many times.
