I am running Windows 10. I have the original discs, loads ok but game crashes to desktop. Even tried to update to the latest TSH { 306, 406, etc }, no joy, I always liked that simulation, played OK on my legacy XP version PC. The computer I am trying to run it now is a GPU is nvidia 1060 6gb, CPU is Intel Core I5, running Windows 10. I researched many posts on this forum already and none worked for me. Main menu comes up and are able to select flight parameters but when I hit FLY it crashes to desktop. My desktop resolution for Windows 10 is 1920 X 1048....if anyone has any ideas to help I am open to suggestions, thanks

Use a virtual OS when playing old games, I don't understand why people hesitate to to this... Install vmware workstation, it's free. https://www.softpedia.com/get/System/OS-Enhancements/VMware-Workstation.shtml ... and in VMware install your operating system of choice, in you your case Windows XP. Obviously you need to have an XP installation kit.

A Windows XP CD, DVD, or ISO image and product key. So most likely nowadays when people don't even have an optical disk reader on the computer, an .iso image like these (you still need a key... you should have that if you own a legit copy of win xp).

The old desktop computer that I played F-18 on, kind of been retired in the garage, not sure if any disks came with it. I have F-18 on DCS, very detailed but I still like the simplicity that Microprose F-18 was, thanks your responce Buddy

Have you tried Windows 11?

I followed this guide and got it working very good on my Windows 10 laptop:



Only som issues in the GUI but in game it works flawlessly and with the latesr TSH version.

I haven't tried F-18 with Windows 11. No intention to upgrade from Windows 10 to Windows 11 for me. Thanks Clark for posting that guide, I'll give it a shot. I still have the original F-18 CD's, they install ok on Windows 10 but haven't been able to get it to run. I too tried with the latest TSH patches too.

Sorry to hijack the direction of the thread, but have you heard of GOG Dreamlist? It's a list of games people can vote on for preservation by GOG re-engineering them to work on modern hardware. Realistically, I can't see it happening but I voted for JF18 anyway. I still have a legacy Win7 machine I keep strictly for old games like JF18 but it would be neat if it was easy to install and run on 10 or 11.

Hello Wizard43, thanks your suggestion. I am familiar with GOG's Dreamlist wish list. I too voted for F18 but don't have too much hope that they will persue that. Appreciate your response.

Funny thing, I am running FA-18E Super Hornet from GOG without issue, but still can't run Microprose FA-18, ha ha

Haven't given up yet, just taking a break.

I can get F-15 working great from the original CD, although it's a little dated. It came out well before F-18 so you would figure F-18 would work but it does not for me on Windows 10, I'll keep trying, never give up.

I took a break going to try again, I have the original disk.
