Just looked at some recent video footage showing the inside of the Ocean Gate submersible. HELL NO. I'm not claustrophobic but there's no way I would go so deep in a tiny sub like that. And as Blade said, bolted from the outside. 600 kms out and 8,600 meters deep, no chance in hell I would do that. Let alone pay for it. did you see the video NFB brought ? they were basically diving blind, guided by text messages correcting their course, and from the video there was a clear delay in control when the guy on window was activing as navigator and and the pilot with the joystick driving the sub, now imagine it is a restless sea.....conditions in the bottom will be murky as hell,with no contact to surface they will be lost adrift,only thing they can do is surface, say they hit on something in the bottom or even titanic itself=doom. say one bolt is not properly tighted ? doom. they wont have a hull pressure indication for that, it comes instantly. i would gladly pay 250k to drive a rover over titanic,"freely", not dive there to watch over a small port hole in a gambiarra submarine

The wreckage is in a remote area about 370 miles south of Newfoundland, Canada, at a depth of 12,500 feet, or about 2.4 miles.

A gasket to the life support system or some other less than obvious component could have failed, leading to either a collapse of their air recirculation or worst case, water into the cabin...
That thing is way too claustrophobic for me. Nope.

My guess would be they lost pressure. I agree that they probably lost pressure. If the vessel had lost contact with the surface, there would in no way continue the trip. If at all possible, they would have immediately tried to return to the surface. Contact was lost enroute to the wreck. As far as I understand the timeline, they did not have time to reach the site. Thus, there simply is no other logical conclusion. The longshot hope is that the commo tether broke through collision or snag and they are somehow unable to ascend, but that is a hail Mary hope at best.

I'd have gotten into Hunley with the fourth crew before I'd have gotten into that thing. At least with Hunley there was at least a perception that you could do something about your fate.

I think it's safe to say at this point that this company doing the Titanic tours was seriously cutting corners with their submersible.
Oh, and we all know the lawsuits will be coming soon.

Supposedly tapping sounds have been detected I read about that earlier this morning. Apparently a Canadian P-3 picked up the sounds. Let's hope that's the big breakthrough since there's not much time left.

Assuming they find it and it's at depth, how long is a rescue realistically going to take? I hate to say it but I don't see this ending with a good outcome.
If you watch Jaws backwards, it's a heart warming story about a shark that spits out so many people that they have to open a beach.

Supposedly tapping sounds have been detected then surely it got stuck to some part of the ship due to high currents. problably the taping you heard is banging against the ship, also its too late to pull them up even if they had the floaters to do it. did you people forgot about decompression?

you people forgot about decompression? Most (all?) such submersibles maintain an interior pressure equal to sea level, no decompression necessary.

Oh, and we all know the lawsuits will be coming soon. Did you see the controller they were using ? Its a low end Logitech model. You would think they would go for the best possible. like and Xbox Elite.

I have heard that if they are stuck, at the Titanic's depth, there is no possible rescue method.
I can't even begin to imagine what terror those passengers must be going through. Most likely they will not be saved but I'm still grateful for the US and Canadian Coast Guards for going the extra mile in the search.

If true, this would mean the sound is artificial and deliberate and thus be coming from the submersible and not a product of underwater currents
