I saw the new John Wick movie over the weekend (chapter 4), and while it was kinda fun, it just seemed to cross over into being a cartoon, even more than the others. The first one was fun, but they seem to keep getting more over the top in each installment (how does someone jump out of a 3rd floor window, hit a van roof, denting it in, then fall to the pavement, and just get up and walk away?).

Anyone here who jumped off the roof of their house as a kid so they could pretend to be a superhero knows right away just how much BS there is with action movie stunts in Hollywood movies.

I get that movies always stretch reality in some way, but I think they can only go so far before it kills the suspension of disbelief and actually takes you out of the story.

Super Hero movies are extremely popular, so I doubt Hollywood is going to change. Folks here might wonder why I often watch obscure films that few have heard of--that's one reason why.

That's why the first one holds up so well. Nobody was really super and they had no bullet proof suits.

"Being a victim of your own success" seems to apply here. So the first John Wick film was largely grounded on realistic gunplay and it did well at the box office. Then it seems that financial success enticed the studio to make each successive film more and more over the top with the action scenes.

Watched first 2 episodes of Picard season 3 last night. I found it to be very silly in several parts (pump action phaser rifle? Seriously? A 20 year old played by a 34 year old? ) and the profanity is over the top. I think I am done.

I watched a Sean Bean series called "Time" which was pretty interesting. I recently finished watching "Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins" again as its been awhile since I've watched it. I wish they would have done a sequel. Fred Ward is just great. I also watched "Fire Down Below" with Steven Seagal. Its one of the few Seagal movies I like. Just a fun 90s action movie with a lot of country music folks showing up in it and Steven Lang!
Also loved Remo back in the day. Fire Down Below had some good action scenes and any film with Harry Dean Stanton and Marg Helgenberger in is worth a watch.
I think the most recent Steven Segal movie I've seen is "Executive Decision" and that came out in 1996!
