Again, this is down to interpretation. At any rate, whether ED is in their right to ban Barthek and censor any of his content on the forums is irrelevant. It's still very bad (and financially stupid) behaviour.

And just to reiterate, EULAs have no legal value in the EU. If they want to act censory in their turf all the better for them, but good luck enforcing it anywhere else. Which just shows how blind they are in the first place.

but since the only way he can make people aware of the fact that he is accepting donations is by posting somewhere public, it so happens that he did on that page.

since anyone can ignore it - it is of no consequence in relation to that particular mod he made.

These textures are probably better than anything ED will push with 2.5 (at least with the Caucasus). They're also better that Starways (strictly IMHO), and they probably got a percentage of the donations from him (incidentally, a company taking a percentage on donations is shady as hell). Meaning, the less Barthek's mod is known the better for them, and this whole EULA thing looks like an excuse to deny him the forums visibility.

Too bad other communities (like here or r/hoggit) are both more populated and held in better regards.

You dont even know the entire story so dont make assumptions and judgements on others when you dont know the situation, and I'll leave it at that.

Barthek, Diveplane, EricJ56, Simmod crew ... before them there were many others, there is always a "hidden" story that as it remains "unknown" bars us from making judgments ...

anyhow - all of them were handled in a rough way , that you justify due to some sort of "agenda" they had.

Well it's hard to not be bitter when you downright censor posts that don't violate your EULA just because they're about someone that (supposedly) did. Without a comment or anything as well, you just delete them.

And I also find the whole "you don't know the whole story but I do, so shut up" quite unnerving. Especially when it's being used as an excuse for censoring discussion.

Obviously by "you" I mean the people behind PR decisions, not you as a person.

Just for clarification, I never told anyone to shut up,
I told them to stop deliberately degrading others (whether that be ED, Moderators, Ponies or Dragons), when they do not know the whole story.

I don't appreciate every time someone ends up banned, that I get the " Look What you did " Lines...

Look what they did...
They Left ED Forums because they tried to setup a donation thread (and was denied) because a Licensed Developer was allowed to do so when Content protection was able to be integrated into his work, etc.

The EULA was clear, adding a Disclaimer to the download page doesn't negate that he is accepting funds transferred to him as a result of developing New Game Materials.

He was warned not to, and he did it anyway.




As for deleting the thread, News/Threads pertaining to banned members have always been deleted� it�s nothing new, and it�s likely nothing that going to change,
It�s basically a ban circumvention, Posting via Alias or Proxy.

did you guys notice that other than MP or Virtual Squadrons there is hardly any flight sim website that has any coverage of DCS ? Avsim, Combatsim, Sim-outhouse, LockOnFiles ... one wonders why.

Fair point. He's a bad person, we get it. (rolls eyes) While you're telling us we don't know the whole story you clearly don't know the whole story about many of the people banned over there for some truly stupid stuff. You can defend ED and point fingers all you like. YOU are part of the problem over there if you're a forum mod. Period. Deal with it. You are seen by many as the bad guy. Deal with it. Personally, I don't have any hard feelings against you. You've always treated me fine. However, I'm not part and parcel to ED's forums so you really haven't had any reason nor ability to treat me wrong. What you should do is just accept what and who you are doing things for. Some of the stuff they do is messed up, and when you defend it appears that you're as much of a dick as they are (they being the policy makers over there). You'll notice I said "appears". If you don't want to have to defend yourself all the time then when coming over to a forum where we can all actually say what we want as adults maybe you shouldn't say anything. Because when you say some of the things you've said you spark outrage and you get to the the de facto whipping boy for ED. Again, that's your fault. You chose that.

As for ED and their policies, they're more than welcome to them. They also deserve any and all criticism that comes about because of those policies. It's not like they just implemented them last month and there's backlash. It's been the same ol same ol for over a decade. Any criticism that is leveled towards ED, especially regarding their interactions with others in this community are absolutely warranted. If you can't see that then you should take a few steps back and put on your objectivity hat. If it's not possible for you to do that then I can't do or say anything that will help you.

True. Combatace only in the last couple of years has had a mildly active DCS forum. And that's because I finally got one of my fellow mods over there into DCS. Look at the LOMAC/ED download section over there. My work features heavily over there as at one point I was trying to introduce more of the flight sim community to ED's work. But you're right, not a lot of DCS love out there and as a moderator on several flight sim forums it's because people don't like how they're treated on ED's site. I've had people PM me at LOF and Combatace for help and to ask questions because they get treated terribly by Eagle and their "crew". Can't ask a question or make a comparison because the ban stick comes out. LOL.

I've never removed a post nor banned anyone at either of the sites I moderate on because I've always felt that it was better to have a discussion and if the person posting was wrong you could point out the error of his ways. Makes for a better experience and people tend to respond better after that. Sometimes people are frustrated and have a bad day and it comes out on the forums. What's going on over on ED's forums is the equivalent of someone putting their hand up in your face and telling you to shut up. I don't respond well to that in person or on the net. Most others feel the same as I do. Just sayin'.

Because all those sites are focused on MSFS (and spin offs)? They cover none of the other combat sims that have nothing to do with Microsoft's products. Never seen anything on them about DCS, Falcon/BMS, Il-2(1949/CloD/BoS), Rise of Flight, WoFF, etc etc.
