So after flying in a wing with Klarsnow, Brennus, and Near_Blind the other day...thanks for all of the help and shared bounties by the way...I jumped on last night to use some of my first 100k earned.

So I upgraded a bunch of systems on my Freagle. Added a wake scanner and a fuel scoop (replaced 2 cargo) and changed out my gimbled burst laser for a fixed cannon. Then I headed back out.

It took me a while but finally the nav bouy I was patrolling erupted into action. Once I learned how to use my new cannon along with my 2 fixed pulse lasers, I started making hay. Another 100k earned...sweet.

I am loving this eagle but it seems everyone has a viper or a cobra. I assume this is because of the 2 medium weapon hardpoints. Does the increase in size make that big a difference...I feel pretty powerful now?

Also, what is the deal with the conflict zones? Wolf 1341 (i think) had a conflict zone. I went there but everyone was clean. I ended up leaving because I didn't know who to attack. How do these work?

Thoughts/Tips...

The Eagle is a "light fighter", maneuverable and lightly armored. The Viper is basically an Eagle on steroids, it's faster and more heavily armed and armored. The Cobra is the do-all Millennium Falcon of the game, so it's popular because it's handy for a little of everything

In a conflict zone you need to go into the menus on your right side HUD and choose which side you want to align with. Once you pick a side the other side will all turn hostile.

It was just a random gathering on Monday. I was on for several hours last night and didn't see anyone.

We can link up whenever you feel like it. I'm usually free Tuesday and Thursday and every other weekend.

Broke down and bought it.

Downloading now. Commander name should be MojoFlow, but will confirm once I get it up and running.

Look forward to some online shenanigans.

From what little I've done, it plays well with a 360 controller. You still need access to a keyboard/keypad, but most can be done with the controller.

No, I tried it but don't care for it. I can't ever get a profile that feels natural enough and I'm too aware of having to turn my head unnaturally. Looking away from my screen, or to the edge of my screen, to look at something in the center of my screen just ruins it. I'm too fidgety for something more sensitive. LOL
Works fine with controller, just click the right stick and you have free look. I prefer that.

Hmm. Ya'll up for some less than scrupulous activity? There's a shortage of tax collectors at the moment...

I am jumping online right now, but am just learning still. Give me a few more nights to at least nail down my controls and I will feel more comfortable joining up.

Quick question though. For wings, if I join a wing, do I still have to get to where my wing-mates are, or do I 'magically' appear there? I am not sure where the heck I am right now, will post later on my current location.

Cheeers!

You will have to travel to where your wing is at, so depending on where you started that could mean a bit of a drive. But its worth it.

Actually happy about that. I don't think I would like the realism 'hit' otherwise.

I am getting more use to the game, have done some fairly successful trading. I am sure it is in another thread, but can someone tell me the general system area I should start making my way to?

Cheers!

Well, a few of us are in or around branglal system. But check with the guys or time zone you are most likely to play as they may be somewhere else

I'm getting used to getting around now, navigating and landing. Even sold my silver on the black market from my botched contract.
Picked up a contract to take out 2 cargo ships in a couple of areas. Finally got there and these pulse lasers I've got don't seem to have ANY impact at all.
Do I really have to buy new weapons first or is there something about the game that was preventing damage? I was in solo play. Could that have been another player
but I'm not able to engage in solo? Right up close there seemed to be no damage whatsoever.

If you got Class 1 pulse lasers gimballed, you're not going to do much damage against ships with class 3 and above shields.

IF you were in Solo play, you will not meet any other players on-line.

So I probably need to drop this contract and do some trading instead. What weapons should I be saving up for? I'm in the stubby little entry level ship.

Buy yourself a kill warrant scanner

Look on the system chart and find yourself a big planet with rings round it. Quite often those rings will have "resource extraction sites".

These are great places to hunt wanted people. Resource extraction sites have security there as well which is a good thing as they help you bring down much larger prey.

So look for an already on going fight and join in,

Or if you can't see a fight,

Lock all npc's in your vicinity, and those that say wanted are fair game. One you have identified them as wanted, scan them with the kill warrant scanner which will net you more bounty. Once scanned, get stuck in. You will usually find that security npc's, will jump in the fight and help you.

Don't worry, unless you shoot the security forces or innocent people, they will not harm you. It also doesn't matter who kills the wanted person, as long as you got some hits in, you will get the bounty on destruction.

These resource extraction sites are full of wanted ships of varying sizes and great earners of cash.

Also doing this in a stock ship, you have nothing to loose. If you die, just respawn in and new freedom sidewinder and have at it.

Just to add on to what Bogus said, if you want to stay legit, make sure you scan the target and get the wanted indication BEFORE you fire. This may be obvious, but I have jumped the gun once or twice when I know a ship is being attacked by security forces.
