I'm pretty sure I forgot to post this image of Mars I took back in May. I was testing my new camera for planetary imaging.  There is some good detail there, including the Northern Polar Icecap and some clouds. I should have imaged Mars more this apparition, but it is receding rapidly now. I'll be ready to try again in 2016 though.

Glad that you all like it. I am going to focus more on solar system imaging for awhile as it takes far less effort to set up my equipment vs long exposure deep space imaging. GrayGhost, the equipment I used was my trusty Meade LX200 10in SCT, and my new ZWO ASI120M camera. ZWO ASI120MM. I shot through RGB filters. For processing I used AutoStakkert to align and stack the best frames, Registax 6 for wavelet processing and then combined the final RGB channels in Photoshop.

Okay, but really, very cool shot. I would not have thought that a shot of mars could be taken, that clearly, with a home telescope.

Beautiful!  Was out two-nights ago, lying on the lawn looking up with a pair of 12x50 binoculars. Conditions were as perfect as I've seen. Tens of thousands of visible stars.

True fact: If Europa was reduced to the size of a billiard ball, it would be smoother than any billiard ball ever made. In reverse, if the smoothest one ever made was expanded to the size of Europa, it would have a rougher surface with more differences in terrain elevation than Europa does.
