Today we give you He 111 H-6 for the early access. This magnificent aircraft completes the IL2BOS hangar making it all 10 planes that we planned to create - and we did it. Still there is one BUT - we release it without bomb load this week. Next Friday update will contain necessary corrections
Also today we update the game version implementing massive changes in the multiplayer, improving its technical features. We count on performance improvement however we don't know yet how big this improvement will be. Also some technical issues are expected so don't be surprised if multiplayer mode crashes - we're testing the new system, it's still WIP. The team is working hard and theres still a lot to do. But the work is not just for the in-studio employees.
Some of you already know that a small group of enthusiasts is engaged in a voluntary project - creating an additional content for BOS. For instance, Tatarenko has presented us his first singleplayer missions and were considering an opportunity to add them to the game. Also earlier this week Ive asked the lead designer of another small team, Zeus to tell more about their remarkable project which is highly awaited even by us.
Zeus: Were in love with the sky with our whole hearts. Most of us have been flight enthusiasts since childhood, attending modeling clubs (I personally have a grade in RC modeling) and reading tons of aviation related material. But circumstances werent always smooth for each of us and only a few actually work with planes. For people like us flight-sims are the only chance to virtually touch the sky. Thats our sort of escapism: get back home from work, let the family sleep, get to the room and fly for an hour or so. And we started building our own map - Novosokolniki. We approached the devs with our idea and discussed it with them. They said that they know about this piece of history, but theyre simply short of resources and time to make such a campaign. But players may try this challenge and make a small map for the two planes by themselves. So, we decided to create a semi-historical map. I call it semi-historical because the game industry is not yet capable of recreating realistically sized territories exactly the way they looked back then in 1942. The work started in August 2013. We spent a few months learning the technologies, researching and categorizing all the info including wartime maps of the Red Army and Wehrmacht including aerial footage and photos. After several months of development a base for the map was finished: landscape, rivers, forests, roads, rail tracks and villages. We modeled several types of buildings that are not available in the original game, such as churches and rail stations. We've also learned how to enriche the vegetation with spruces which are naturally not presented in the Stalingrad region. Im glad to admit that we learned to use the editor within a relatively short period. ***** In addition to the changes that have been mentioned above we plan to add the Novosokolniki map to the game today. It should be available in multiplayer to all IL2BOS players.

P.S. As a bonus for today we're sharing this short video. It's kinda related to Steam... just watch it.
Awesome update!!! The HE-11 is awesome, the 190 Cockpit is fixed, thy slightly raised the LA-5 gunsight. The MP is much smoother, and my favorite update. The new map! Its so detailed. Its incredible!! I cant wait for the large 'Nevel" map. Zues has out done himself!! I gotta laugh at all the negativity a few have put towards this in the last week, they have now missed out on the BEST update so far! LOL serves em right.
I dunno. Still nothing new on the SP campaign. That's disappointing.
I had fun practicing flying the Heinkel and doing some bombing runs. Seems like a pretty docile plane to control apart from taking off with a heavy bomb load. That was a bit tricky. I found the bomb sight easy to use but it's a shame that they decided not to use authentic bomb sights and instead went with a simplified, abstracted aiming system. Hopefully either 777 or the community will introduce the option to add real sights for the 111 and the Pe-2.
I also flew a few bomber intercept QMBs in a Yak. The He-111 AI isn't there yet. It tries to respond and manoeuvre as if it were a fighter. I like the present skill level of the gunners. They're dangerous if you don't keep changing angles on them but they don't have laser aim like other sims. Seems pretty easy to light the poor buggers on fire.
Man O Man! They really outdid themselves ... the startup sequencing, the 190 pit, the 111 ... and the Map! Headed doggedly in the right direction .... and much, much faster than even I had thought.
Yup, I noticed that too. I think that's in keeping with the rest of the planes in the game though. All the planes in BOS are more fragile compared to other sims.
While the Heinkel makes a great addition to the game, I am not real thrilled with the engine management at this stage, where I can run at 2399 rpms for 30 minutes with no issues but 2401 rpms for 15 minutes results in catastrophic engine failure. Seems a little abrupt at the moment.
In both cases you're at too high of an RPM setting so who cares? Run it at 2250 and be done with it - there's your "management" I don't see what the problem is.
Your complaining that over-reving the engine to various degrees results in the engine quitting at varies times. Keep it at the proper RPM and it won't quit on you at all. What am I missing here?
My point is that there is a spread of 3 rpm between no problems and catastrophic failure, and it just comes across as being super gamey. It would be nice if there were some other type of damage mode other then total failure.
I am familiar with the operating procedures of the Jumo 211D on the H2, but not so much with the 211F. Considering the redline is higher I am not going to assume the climb settings will be the same between the two. ATM a setting of anything under 2400 rpm and WOT will get me up to altitude pretty comfortably. Their is little reason to stick to cruise settings unless cruising.

I get it, but since it's above the tolerable RPM limit anyway, not so much an issue I think since you won't be experiencing unless you try.
Except it isn't - because one is a flight sim and the other is your body. Again, don't over-rev the engine and you'll never notice.
Honestly, with respect to everyone and the point itself - I don't see why it matters unless you like having contests for who can over-rev their engine the most and have it last the longest. If they fix the problem and add more nuance - great. If they don't - well I'll never know either way because I'll have the RPM set correctly.
I know everyone wants every little aspect of every little thing modeled down to the last N'th detail, but that's not realistic considering what has to be covered. Again, if they change it - great. You'll never hear me complain about more realism.
