Is anyone else really excited about this movie? I loved Godzilla as a kid. This is the first origin remake that I'm actually looking forward to seeing... staring Bryan Cranston! I admit that the latest trailer looks very impressive. It also seems like this won't have any of the tongue in cheek silliness that the Roland Emmerich version had.

Yes, because if there's one word that my mind conjures up when I think of Godzilla, it's "dignified."
The Jedi Master It's all about the mood. There's a big difference between portraying a Godzilla film in a serious, dark tone and presenting it in a light hearted way with characters cracking jokes about how bad American-made French roast coffee is or how some blonde bimbo can't seem to get organized!

The point is why are you expecting a Godzilla film in a serious, dark tone? It's a guy in a rubber suit tramping over a model city.
I do not understand the view that all SF must be serious and dark. That would make it pretty dull and tedious. You could just watch a couple things a year and be done with it since it's all the same.

I do not understand the view that all SF must be serious and dark. That would make it pretty dull and tedious. You could just watch a couple things a year and be done with it since it's all the same.
The Jedi Master The original Godzilla film from 1954 had a very dark and serious tone and it's the only Godzilla film that is considered to be a scifi classic.

I do think there�s a difference this time around�especially after the embarrassing 1998 remake by Emmerich who had nothing but disdain for the genre and the character. This time around Gareth Edwards and Thomas Tull are big fans of the franchise� the tone is different, this is a much grander scale, its dark and gritty, no slap stick dialogue, no baby face Mathew Broderick� we actually get a glimpse of the origin and backstory. The cast this time around is talented with worthy credentials and the monster does look pretty good! Plus they spent 170 Mill, so maybe a sense of realism can be achieved (or not). The trailers do look impressive so I really hope they get this right. What more could you ask for from a summer release? Let�s hope it delivers!

He was 36. It wasn't the 80s, it was the late 90s, I wouldn't call him "baby" faced.

Either way, Broderick was badly miscast and that blonde girl was utterly forgettable.

Either way, Broderick was badly miscast and that blonde girl was utterly forgettable. I disagree: Yes, the movie was horrible. Yes, the dialogue was mind numbing. Yes, the acting in it was really bad. BUT.... I have seen ALL those actors do a good job in OTHER projects, be it the blonde in a tv show, or Broderick in "Election" years later. I concluded after seeing that movie, that the director can make ANY top end actor look like an f'ng moronic tard. I believe a director can do this unintentionally through inattention or incompetence. And I think they can do it deliberately either to "get back" at an actor for whatever reason, or as an intentional artistic choice (Lucas with the ep1-2-3). Unpossible? I present to you Natalie Portman, in StarWars. I rest my case! Broderick COULD have done a good job with the Gorgira movie...if some unknown person on the project didnt have their heads up their colons. I dunno if that was the writer, the director, or Broderick himself, but IMO it was a bad decision, not nessisarily a bad actor.

Further proof: he cast Jake Gyllenhaal in Day After Tomorrow.
There's just no reason to cast him EVER.

Taking my boy 1st class to see it as he is a Godzilla fan. I expect typical big stomping monster, wrecking, smnashing, screaming , pew pew ,boom! crash! explosions carnage and expensive popcorn action. With a small hint of a plot that won't really matter
